Bollocks, it is exactly the same as Marie Antoinette's famous reply of "Let them eat cake" when told that the "peasants" were starving as they had no bread. The French had the right idea with these aristocrats. They introduced them to Madam Guillotine! Can I ask why these million people needed to use a foodbank in the first place as we all pay into a welfare state to provide for those in need of help?
Can I suggest some truths to spoil a good rumour?
We don't, as a nation, pay enough into the Social Security system
It was the financial crisis that ushered in the need for food banks
It was Gordon Brown who oversaw that crisis
He made it worse than needs be as he turned the nation from a nation of savers into a nation of credit card junkies- fact.
Ive seen (and still see) similar and worse situations in other European countries regarding food banks
The Tories can appear to be dismissive - but are often misquoted
Im not sure there was much choice but austerity after the 2008 crisis. The financial system was crushed - the same system that pays billions in corporation tax and employs many people who pay a lot of income tax and NI, to support the less well-off in our society
I don't think any educated, decent person wants to see food banks in the 21st century
Im not really sure that Marie-Antoinette has anything to do with modern day life in the North East of England - the situation then and now holds little comparison
Tarring everyone with the same brush is divisive and counter productive e.g all Tories are CNUTS or the Labour Party is a bunch of left wing commies...ie the use of THEY
