Good natured leg pulling is fun. I don't think FLT will see it as anything else.
What I do like about this board and particularly KK, is that some random subject like this throws up a connection between posters that was otherwise unknown. Apart from FLT using the River Hamble for skiing, OranjeBoom used to fish on it at Botley a place that I know well. I used to fish there too and might even know him, but the names not familiar:).

It might even lead to car-sharing ........... :emoticon-0100-smile

Anyone been to the Horse and Jockey, Curbridge, recently? They do great food (esp for Gluten Free, which pleases my daughter immensely!) and they do some great music - including an "open mic" blues night on the 1st Sunday of each month. I try to get there when I can and it's always a good night. The sort of place which deserves to do well .................

Funny - just posted about the Horse and Jockey. Not sure if they rent out boats - they have a new landlord. We try to go up there from Bursledon on New Year's Day (tide permitting) for a few beers and some drinks :1980_boogie_down:

Was that sheer coincidence.? :)

It's just that for two years running, when the Southampton Ramblers have finished a walk at this particular pub [let's say it was the Horse & Jockey] there is a tiny slip there with several boats and canoes on it and the odd person has said they are from the pub. Plus there has been no sign of cars with racks, trailers or anything to denote boats being brought from home. It all looks very pleasant too in the summer sunshine.

Perhaps you're the person to remind me which pub hires out small rowing boats and canoes [I think] during the summertime on the Hamble [or Meon]. Is it the Horse & Jockey.? Beyond that I have no idea. Sorry to be so vague.

I don't know of any pubs that hire out boats these days.<sorry> Maybe in Warsash or Hamble? I dont think the Horse & Jockey do.
I wouldn't think the Meon was big enough to boat on. I'm not much help really am I?

I haven't been in there for years Dave. I like the sound of the blues night, I might give that a try. Cheers.

On a side note, when my father was a young man (before WW2) there was a pilot whale that swam up Curbridge Creek and became stranded as the tide ran out. In those days there was very little thought of conservation so to put it out of it's misery the landlord of the H&J got out his gun and shot it! It was buried in a field nearby and there used to be some old black and white pictures in the H&J of the event. So much for "Save the Whale" in Curbridge.

Attention console folk: PS4 or Xbox One?

Managed to turn a tenner in to £400 or so through the international break, so going to treat myself to a new console. Advice needed. :)
Unless you like Halo get a PS4. Most of the multi platform games are now aimed towards PS4. So you will get better graphics and added content etc. Even Call of Duty new dlc will appear first on PS4 for the first time ever. The new Star Wars Battlefront has a added map compared to Xbox. Also for me anyways PS4 exclusives are far better then Xbox.

To DTLW
Im more than happy with my x1, granted ps4 will get exclusives aand so will x1, on bxox live they five away free games twice a month usually one decent game (tomb radier, MGS5 part1) an something almost homebrewish.
You probably cant tell the games apart gfx wise, xbox live is better managed than psn live in my experiances with ps3 + x360.
Probably the best advice you can have is get the biggest HD in what ever you chose as the games partly or fully install and fill up quickly, x1 will take an external HD, so that hd space can be fixed, im unsure if the ps4 can do this.

You can get internal hard drive upgrades for PS4 and with some games you can easily tell the difference graphic wise. But others like you said are very close. You get free games each month as well (most indies won't appear on Xbox due to a ****ty rule they have). and the games install far far quicker on the PS4. So deleting a game when completed and then re installing it when dlc comes out takes next to know time. It's why I ended up selling my Xbox, it takes ages to install a game.

Sandi Toksvig to replace Fry in QI. Good choice....funny and clever.
I remember Stephen Fry said he'd do it as long as the BBC wanted him to. Excellent choice with Sandy Toksvig though. Liked her sharp humour from the first. She was excellent on the News Quiz and she'd improve HIGNFY if they wanted a permanent host.

At least Rory McGrath can now reappear on QI. Whenever he was on Fry saw it as a challenge to his IQ, because McGrath is as smart as they come.

I have an Xbox one - the beautifully simple party/message/friend system that made Xbox live so good on the 360 - has been totally murdered and is awful to use now. I guess PSN has improved but never used a PS4. If it is any good I would suggest getting a ps4

It used to be a no brainer: PSN was free where as XBL was a subscription service. Now you have to pay for both. I'll stick to PS3 for a bit longer.

Having not been a games player, except for Pro-Evo and Flight Sims, I wondered how good the graphics were on the PS3 and was quite pleasantly surprised when I was offered one to repair and keep, should I want to. It was relatively easy to repair and is still going well. I mainly use it for its Blu-Ray capabillity though.

Yeah MS made a lot of mistakes with the One. PSN is a lot better then it was with the PS3 so they are basically equal. PS4 has sold nearly double the amount of consoles then XBox so naturally companies will market towards PS4 more often.
