I agree with you on the moral side, but it's a very immoral world we live in and unfortunately it will stay like that (and get worse imo). That wasn't really the point though, from a players point of view - he's asked his agent to try and get him a move to a big club, agent asks club who says no. Agent goes back to player with said news and player asks, is there anything else you (or I) can do. Agent says no you just have to get on with it. Something tells me said agent won't be employed for much longer...

BTW I'm not talking about Vic above - just in general, the way I see it is it's no different to a Barrister/Solicitor acting morally wrong to get the best result for their client. It's a reason why I could never see myself doing either those sort of jobs as I couldn't push my natural feelings/morals to the back of my mind just to make a quick buck.

I'm pretty sure most professions do actually have a code of ethics; even if they're not always lived up to. In the case of agents there would appear to be no such restraints on behaviour, not even theoretical ones.

Wouldn't be surprised if he had someone managing his twitter account for him.

Did Vic play any silly games with Celtic? I don't know, so just asking.
If I remember Vic wasn't really that fussed about joining us......
Waiting for others to join the list of available clubs
Vic wanted to play in the prem but never really had much choice of clubs
In that he was never really gonna be that committed or going to stay long

I think lots of people in the public eye do. You could have some fun though, managing someone else's account for them. Bit risky maybe.

What's the alternative? Players represent themselves when negotiating contracts with clubs?

I agree about the modern game as a whole, and agents are just opportunists who saw a way to make money easily. If they weren't an asset to players why would they still be employed?

In terms of the morality it is obviously an individual thing. I see a situation like Wanyama as not much different from someone getting their first job, company trains them, potentially pays for qualifications, they do well in the role then they are offered a pay rise/better role at a different company and move on. Some may feel a degree of a loyalty to the company who gave them the chance in their first job, but I'd wager majority feel they've earned the right to move on.

I don't really know what the answer is to be honest. I do know that Tony Adams never employed an agent and just trusted Arsenal to do right by him. But people like Adams, and our own MLT, are rare in any walk of life.

If it's anything like music, they'll have someone managing the day to day running of it, and they might drop in themselves every now and again with a comment.

These two points I would dispute strongly. Bigger team yes, better no. As for the area I know people who have lived in London and much prefer it down here and why wouldn't they? :)

Yep. No way has Wayama got some one to do his Twitter for most of the time.

There are good agents and bad agents. Wanyama's agent falls into the very bad agent.

It's all a bit hypocritical, I didn't hear anyone complain when Wanyama (or his agent) were pushing Celtic to join us. It's football, players move on to bigger/better things.
Why would we - they have a different set of fans to do that moaning (Celtic fans). Think of it as one big network of fans - there is the huge groups known as 'all fans'. They are broken into subsets of fans per club. Each subset of fans performs this same moan about agents for their own club, meaning every fan (more or less) in the larger group known as 'all fans' is saying they want this to stop or change.

I'm back to wanting Vilhena. Wonder if we'll grab him in January?
I have a feeling we'll be relatively active in the last days of this window, as am sure we'll have realised we need at least two more players (including VVD).

Out of curiosity, do you guys see Wanyama as a Southampton or a Spurs player once the window shuts?

Just want to see the views/ opinions/ info you guys may have on the whole thing.

Most of us Spurs fans have been after a DM all window and up until the past week Wanyama wasn't a name that was mentioned until the story of him asking to leave came about. Don't really know much about him if I'm honest, Schneiderlin was the guy who many raved about but we all knew realistically that he was Utd bound. Would be surprised if you sold Wanyama to us if truth be told after the whole Toby scenario but I suppose money talks and we're due to splash a bit of cash in these final few days.

I think he'll be a Saints player. If he is a Spud, then he'll be a very expensive one. I can't see the board backing down unless the money is very big.
