Love everyone blaming agents. It is their job to get the best deal for their clients, if the rumours about Spurs are true then Wanyama can move to a better team, more likely to win things (even if still pretty unlikely), earn more money and live in a better part of the UK. Fail to see how the agent can be blamed by advising Wanyama to try and get the move
Still think agents should honour their players' contracts, or tell their players to remain professional about it. The agents were the ones who took so long negotiating it in the first place. Wait until it's finished or in final year before doing what he's doing.
Contracts are completely meaningless in football. The offer is there to join a team now, no guarantee the offer will still be there when the contract is up, loads of possible factors why a big team might not be interested in a player a year or 2 later. The agent would be doing a **** job if he didn't advise Wanyama to do everything he can to get a move. The one thing I don't agree with is the reluctance to hand in transfer requests, but the club can just reject those anyway

It's all a bit hypocritical, I didn't hear anyone complain when Wanyama (or his agent) were pushing Celtic to join us. It's football, players move on to bigger/better things.

Did Vic play any silly games with Celtic? I don't know, so just asking.
Beat me to what I was about to post. In any employment situation, if you sign a contract you should honour it. I have no particular view on when clubs sell players or buy players, but a contract is what it says - a legal agreement between two parties. It is disappointing when either side try and apply pressure to effectively renegade on that deal. Only one person really knows what is going on in Wanyama's mind and that is Wanyama. Whatever the outcome I won't lose any sleep over it. As a club we will move on and my support will move on with it. At the end of the day if he does leave an opportunity presents itself for someone to step up to the plate.
No I'm just sort of backing up Saintmagics point really, the agents are doing the best job for his client surely? No one complained that Mane acted like an twat to get himself here. We can't have it both ways.
Why can't Wanyama hand his resignation in and work a period of notice and leave? Like 99% of the rest of the working world.

Either way, even if £25m comes in, I'd tell Spurs to **** right off, I know we'll lose Vic eventually (next Summer) but I remember saying back during last season that we can't afford to lose both him & Morgan in the same window, that could be disastrous
You have two different things in that post, the agent and the player.
I didn't think Mane's behaviour was great and that may yet come back to haunt us. The fact we signed a good player doesn't stope me thinking that the agents behave badly. The fact the agent is trying to get a good deal for his player doesn't stop me thinking the agent is behaving badly. It actually adds to that feeling if Vic starts to play up.
I think the agents instigate this and encourage the players to play up, hence the agent is at fault as much as the player if he then plays up. The player also looks bad in my book if he allows his to happen.
More money? Better place to live? Bigger club? Great, ask the club if the client can be sold. If no, ask again. Keep asking, but in the end of the club say no, then the player can et that move for nothing in two years time.
I agree with that from our (Southampton - the club/fans) perspective but I'm trying to look from the other side and if he didn't do everything in his power to try and get the move, he'd be failing his client surely? His client pays his wages not us, the agents have no loyalty to us do they?
Easy to say they could move in 2years time for free but the opportunity might not always be there.
It boils down to this (imo):
Football agents have every right to push n try any trick to try n get the move their client wants, it is after all their job.
Southampton Football Club has the right to tell said agent/player to **** off when they are under contract. We have that option if we choose to exercise it.
If I were VW and wanted a move, I'd wait until a better option then Spurs came up. Not worth throwing a strop over them. Schniederlin prooved what waiting a year can get you. A move to a club that are in the Champions League and will be challenging for silverwear.
Agents are a scourge on the modern game. For the reasons you've just given. It's always in the agents interests to agitate for more money; not always necessarily in the players best long term interests. And certainly not in the best interests of the sport. I fail to see a single positive thing these parasites contribute to the game.
I believe we have. My point is what happens next ... players playing up, etc. That then becomes wrong. I actually disagree with what you said at the start. He won't be failing his client. He did his job by getting his client an acceptable contract for a length of time. He should then be working on the next one, wherever that be. If it is deemed acceptable, then (in my opinion) the person accepting that is morally wrong. If any club agrees to sell, then fair enough.
