I suspect he'll still be at Saints come the end of the window; losing Schneiderlin and Wanyama in the same summer would be too big a hole to fill a month into the season. There'll be a clashing of heads, he'll be told he's staying and we'll get one more season out of him. I never could see him staying next summer so he'll leave us then.

I would be seriously surprised if he was a Spurs player come close of the window. Spurs have left it way too late to poach the second half of our defensive megashield, and I imagine we based our Morgan replacement(s) on their compatability with Vic. Align to that we have the upper hand due to his contract, so Levy will never meet his valuation. We'd be stupid strategically - no matter what the money - to give you both Toby (he wasn't ours, I know) and Vic, and for me that would really send a message that we are a player development club above all else. You can't hand your entire (near enough PL-best) defence (bar two) to other teams, including two key players to the same team. Spurs are probably aware that you're probably just destabilising Vic for a second attempt next year, at which point you will get him (unless he actually improves his stock to get a more glamorous suitor). Think this is just groundwork. Again we look like being rivals too - albeit at the wrong end of the division! <laugh> Poch for the chop!

    People still say Spud?

Though fair enough, you paid about £12m or something didn't you? Can't see him going for anything less than £20m then, unless your board want a quick sell if he officially hands in a transfer request.

As long as my brother in law is a spud, I'll use spud :)

If he hands in an official request, he'll get told the same as Morgan last year.

You serious? You are aren't you?

I don't think he'll be going to spurs mate. Pretty sure no one at St Marys will be answering the phone to you lot. I hope not anyway.

He won't go to Tottenham for the same reason Schneiderlin didn't, which is that Levy wouldn't pay our valuation. That's if we decided to sell him, which Koeman has said we won't. With only a few days left of the window we would be mad to let him go now anyway, even if the fee was astronomically huge.

Yeah I think you're probably right there, would be pretty suicidal to lose both him and Schneiderlin in the same window.

    Can't argue with that mate.

Haha been a **** start for both hasn't it? If anything though it may have been a blessing in disguise for us because it's forced Levy's hand to get that cheque book out, the Heung-Min Son deal which is near completion has come out of nowhere, which is usually the type of signing that ends up being one our best based on recent seasons with Modric and van der Vaart.

Haha fair enough, glad he had the upper hand last season :D

Usually not, but in this case I am genuine lol.

Nah I think the same if I'm honest mate, just gauging the opinions of you guys to see if there was any news your end that may have not been filtered through our way.

Not the worst insult I've had thrown my way but good one, solid C for effort <ok>

I think Levy may actually be willing to spend big on him if he was given indication by your board to do so but as others and yourself have said, it'd be crazy to let him go after Schneiderlin, Toby and Clyne's departures, all of whom contributed to that great defensive record you had.

Spurs have a better side than us, we may have closed the gap significantly in recent times but they are still better.

Are the people you know in their early to mid 20s and earn thousands of pounds a week? London is the best place to live if you are young and have basically unlimited cash

He is probably fed up with unwarranted abuse that he is receiving on just about every Forum you can find, seeing it all, it is no surprise that he would want to get away from it all, even if hadn't thought about it before, some of these guys call themselves Saints fans, there is nothing Saintly about them at all.

If they took my edit button away, I'd be done for.

I often wonder why people post a second post immediately after a first post, for the purposes of correcting something.

If there is any truth in Spurs wanting VW, and VW wanting to go to Spurs, then I think it shows a lack of ambition from both parties.
Spurs fans, will not tolerate VW's weaknesses, namely his passing which can be woeful, and will be on his back in no time.
If Spurs really think they are that much better, than Saints, then they really should have moved heaven and earth to get Schneiderlin, who is the real deal.
VW, on the other hand, would leap at the chance to go to Spurs, or Liverpool if they wanted him, purely because he knows he would never be sought after by a genuine top four team, because of his passing ability. And because it would guarantee him a big payday.
Learn from Liverpool. Go after players from teams that finish ahead of you, not behind you, or you could end up, like them, going backwards.

Wanyama is probably a Spurs standard player. Just delighted they missed out on Morgan who is so far out of their league it hurts

You can never truly stop a player from going. We've put ourselves in a good position in terms of not needing to sell, and getting good prices for those that want away. But in the end, if Wanyama (or any other key player) really wants out badly enough, they'll get it.

In Wanyama's case, I think it is more driven by his agent than any real deep personal grievance. I'm optimistic we can keep him for another year, especially as if he plays well he could do better than Spurs. After this season, it seems likely he will leave. Maybe even in the winter. But as we have Romeu, Clasie and Reed we should be okay. We just need a bit more time for Romeu and Clasie to settle in (and get healthy) and for Reed to get some more games under his belt.

They were in their 20's when they lived there and some were born and bred London. Having lived in both places, down here gets their vote. Nothing to do with not being able to afford it up there.

I blame the Wanyama link to Spurs on Toby for pointing out the obvious...that Saints has a better defensive shield than Spurs...similar to Lovren who pointed out that his problem at Liverpool was due to the fact that he wasn't expected to lead at Southampton. All these teams are finding that trying to buy Saints piecemeal isn't the answer....we are a unit.
