I think the whole Europa League winner-qualifies-for-Champs League thing is excellent news for English teams in particular. The likes of Liverpool, Spurs, Everton and ourselves face a massively difficult task of finishing in the top 4, but winning this provides a more realistic route. It should also makes the competition much more competitive/respectable. I only wish they would offer a CL place to both finalists.

To make it more respectable they still need to stop the 3rd place CL teams dropping into it. They should be 2 seperate competitions completely and I think that devalues it massively.

As the lady said (or sang):

Happy talk, keep talking happy talk,
Talk about things you'd like to do,
You gotta have a dream, if you don't have a dream,
How you gonna have a dream come true?

You have been to the "South Pacific too then Godders" nice one!! :emoticon-0148-yes:

Agreed. Picking up the "win a cup" theme - with which I agree as it happens - maybe this is the cup we should be going for!

We only ended up getting 12.5m :emoticon-0100-smile

Yes but you can't compare a RB fee and a 15+ goal/season (throughout his career) striker fee IMO...

Thing is, 15m and even 85K/week is not unreasonable these days when you look at what is going on, but it's not The Southampton Way.
I would love to see Austin here, above perhaps any other player, and it must be really tempting for the board to go after him - but it goes against everything Les and Ron are saying.

We spot talent, we develop talent, we buy talent - but not established talent that comes with the prices attached.
We are proud of our history of doing this and continue to do it every year.
This is our brand, and the big clubs are buying into it - literally.

I know it's disappointing to lose Morgan, and to not be in the mix for Austin, but I'm starting to think that it's a reflection of the choice we have mada about what we want to be as a club.

I think that 85k is a bit O/T, he would be getting that, while the ones doing all of the donkey work for him would probably be earning a lot less?
