The agent thing always cracks me up as well. I think when they get it right it's just that if you throw enough **** etc, some will stick in the end. Let's hope hid VVD sticks. Ha ha

He might be asking £85k today (and to be fair to him, playing and growing up at QPR, he probably thinks that is reasonable!), but I'm not so sure that he'll be asking for it come Aug 31st when the realisation of 12 months of Championship football and no chance of playing at EURO 2016 hits home.

Think Austin will end up at Aston Villa.
Striker is not a priority for us and so I don't think we will get dragged into a bidding war

Think he will end up moving on deadline day, to a team that has either had an awful start, or has had a striker get injured in the first 4 games, and buys him out of desperation. In my opinion he is overpriced at 15M, and i totally agree with the above post he will need to drop his wage demands a bit. May be one for Spurs to buy when Kane shows the same form as he did in the second half of last season, and they are in the bottom 6 at the end of August.

Is it just me? I don't think 85k is all that unreasonable. Plenty of terrible strikers have made more than that. Plus English player premium.

Not saying Saints should pay it. And he won't get it, either. But as an opening position fir negotiations, I don't find it objectionable.

You've got to remember how far we fell in 5 years and how far we've risen in the next 5.
As a fan expectation is a trap we all fall into, as a Saints fan for more years than I care to remember I know this well.
Enjoy the ride now because it won't get much better!!!
All you are saying with your post is that you can't believe Saints can do better than they are currently. As a football supporter your task is to be ever hopeful of improvement. Otherwise what is the point of supporting.?
Done imaginatively and correctly, there is no reason why Saints can't buck the trend. They've already gone way past many sage-like supporters expectations. Why stop now.? It will undoubtedly be slower and harder to progress as the club gets nearer the top. But let us not put limits on the club when even those within don't do it.

There's a difference in believing and wanting and hoping and expecting.

His transfer fee, IMHO is entirely reasonable.
His wage demands mean that he is aiming for any of the top six or West Ham or Everton, all these will pay those type of wages but rules the rest of us out....simples
If none of these clubs come in for him by the end of the transfer window he will have a straight choice, drop your wage expectations and stay in the EPL or enjoy Championship football

Surprised at the numbers on here saying Austin is greedy, not worth £85k pw or £15m.

Isn't that the figure we wanted for our RB of a similar age with a similar length remaining on his contract, but who scored a lot of goals in a very poor side?

Each to their own of course but wood for the trees.

We only ended up getting 12.5m :emoticon-0100-smile

IMO he is worth the £15m asking price, but the touted £85,000 a week is too much for us at this time.

Agree with this. A transfer fee is a one off cost, and in any case we're comfortably ahead on those deals in the last 3 years. It's wage bills that bankrupt clubs, and I don't see us taking that sort of risk. Besides which it would seriously unsettle the rest of the squad if we were to make someone like Austin our top earner. I'd be willing to take a chance on the bloke for sure, but I wouldn't swap him for Pelle at this point anyway, sowwhy pay him a King's ransom in wages?

Hand on heart I probably don't believe Saints can do much better than we currently are. Mourinho came out with a statement yesterday that there are PL clubs trying to buy the title, obviously we're not one of them because we and the rest don't have the finances.
In Steve Bruce words... we have been best of the rest for 2 seasons which is amazing considering where we were 5 years ago.
As FLT stated: I hope, want and dream but I'm not expecting ....I will be at Arnhem away with a legit ticket because I'm a passionate Saints supporter and luckily in a position to attend many of our games. I'm hoping and dreaming one day I'll be watching Saints at the Bernabeu or Camp Nou, if that's sage in your book so be it.
ps. unfortunately finances are a major factor, wasn't it you who said our progress was being scuppered by the big boy's cherry picking our best players??

Unfortunately I agree with this, in my opinion last year is as good as it will likely get for us league-wise, there's simply too big a gap, this is why I would focus on cup competitions as they're our only chance of real glory.

It's good to be ambitious but it has to be with a dose of realism other wise people expect too much n we've got plenty of fans who would class the season a failure if we got to EL group stages and finished 10th/11th which is quite frankly ridiculous.
