I agree with the sentiment. However, the Downing transfer has to be looked at in context. He's returning to his boyhood club and is ageing. No other club would have been able to sign him.

Probably, I remember when he was first interviewed about the possibility of coming here, his response was simply 'why not?'. Why not indeed, as long as whichever club wants me is willing to/desperate enough to pay my extortionate wage demands. Thank God for a season of relative reality check in the Championship.
