Puts the supposed £3m for Jelly into context! If that's all we can get for him I would be working (or blowing) my socks off to get a deal on the table for Jelly to keep him here; extend his contract do whatever. With him in the team as it stands I would be optimistic about scoring a few goals, without him its looking more like Brucey will revert to type and go out for one nil wins as per last promotion. Good to see him training with the lads out in Portugal. I know the Dull Mail said it was to keep his fitness levels up for when a bid comes in, in which case given all the photos on City's web site where's N'Doye? He's not to be seen.
I'd like Murphy for a season, he's proven he can do it in The Championship. That said at £5m they can keep him. I'd rather say no to offers of £3m for Jelly and give him another £20k per week as a bonus based on goals, results, promotion etc to keep him. Better player, and same cost!
I really rate Jelavič - but he missed a lot of playing time last season through injury. Given the amount of games in the Championship - that would be a concern for me.
I think the bottom line was that he injured his knee, played on, then required further surgery, then came back when not match fit. If he's over the injury now with a Summers rest then hopefully he's now finally over the injury (fingers crossed). Aluko, Jelly and 2 others should allow plenty of rotation
No chance of Jelavic being here for next season. More chance of finding your first turd. I will text our kid to see if he has any news or tit bits
I also really rate Jelavic. He seems to be getting lumped in with Hernandez and N'Doye as people we need rid of, seemingly just because he plays the same position as them. I think he's a lot better than either of them and alongside a pacey striker would be bloody brilliant at this level. I'd be doing all we can to keep him. A club like ours can't afford to throw away quality strikers, since they seem to come along once every blue moon. As for his fitness, I think that's become a bit of a myth. He's not suddenly really injury-prone, he's just had one injury that he struggled to shake off during the season, in a team that desperately depended on him and kept rushing him back. The fact he wanted to be rushed back, which certain other forwards definitely wouldn't, shows he's the kind of player you want.
Back to the days of signing the likes of David Brown in my humble opinion. All the cash has been spunked away
Our kid is seeing the bird from the club shop this evening (keep it under your hat) I will get him on the case about transfers and report back.
