I'm going to look at the squad by 1st week August, as I'd rather like to win some of the first five games before the window closes.
McGregor Jakupovic Chester Dawson Maguire Robertson Davies Bruce jnr Lenihan Townsend Clark Elmohamady Meyler Huddlestone Brady Ince Aluko Snodgrass Diame Is that enough for you ?
We should never have been relegated with the players we had last season. The players we have here now can win some matches in august btw.
No. I reckon 3/4 of them will go, whilst 3 are kids who've barely ever played for us, and probably won't feature next season either. I don't think that's a "great core" at all.
But we did, after you called everyone who thought we might an idiot, which was kind of my point. You were wrong.
You would. As for the 3 we shall lose hopefully it will be Jelly N'Doye and Hernandez who failed to do what they were very well paid to do. The reason we went down. The 4th maybe Jakupovic. Calling Bo Myhill again ? Yes I was as the final table does not lie. Our relegation is an issue the players have to correct this season.
I meant 3/4 of your list. I'd expect 3/4 of Chester, Davies, Brady, Robertson, Huddlestone, Brady, Diame and Ince to go, as well as the 3 strikers. Overall, I'd expect us to lose another 6/7 players, on top of the 4 first teamers who have already gone. I'm just suggesting that after last season perhaps you should curb your City bias and see that we're really not in as great a position as you may think.
Alan Nixon, journalist for The Sun is sticking by his guns and saying Ince is near enough a done deal and will be pushed through now we are in a new financial year. Says talks with Ince today are to appease Hull fans. 'We tried to keep him, but he wanted to go etc...' It's also his story regarding Whittingham, says hes our number 1 midfield target
I've got to agree with Tickler on this one, I think we're in a stronger position that a lot of people are making out. I can't see Diame going in this window, Huddlestone has said he wants to stay, we'll probably lose either Brady or Robertson but not both. There will be £20-25M coming in from the sale of the forwards/ couple of others. Bruce will have a list of decent replacements (if the names being touted around are anything to go by) and that's before we even consider the loan market.
Believe me, I'd love to be wrong. Bruce himself said Diame will be gone as soon as he's fit. I'd rather Huddlestone went, if we're keeping someone on those wages I'd rather have Jela. Huddlestone is so laborious and he will be given even less time to pick a pass in the Championship. Bruce's track record when he's given money to spend has varied from poor to disastrous.
Agreeing with Tickler is always a dangerous move. We haven't paid most of the fees from last season yet, at least half the net £25m will still be owed on the players we're trying to flog(along with any balance staged payments on the previous season), we'll be lucky to cover our liabilities, expecting to have £20-25m spare cash is completely pie in the sky. We're trying to flog players precisely because we have lost our Premier League income and now have to cash in on a few to cover our historic transfer fee liabilities. We'll no doubt spend a few quid on replacements, but anyone expecting us to have £20m to spend is bonkers.
I'm not saying we'll have £20M to spend, but we won't be selling without replacing and apart from the forwards I think we're still very strong. I have a feeling we'll use the loan market very well this year, with Bruce and Phelans contacts I can see some good loans coming in.
£5m is a strong budget in the championship, with the players we already have (allowing that some will leave, but as of yet we don't know who) it should be more than enough to fill the gaps with enough quality.
I agree. Every year at the start of the season I have unreasonably high expectations for the forthcoming season, but this coming season I think they're entirely reasonable
