He's too busy being infected More bad ones than good but I think my little list above renders the one size fits all approach as absolutely stupid. Now you **** off and read your bible
Teeny bopping Carrick is the only decent one you actually mentioned... I forgot about him. You can piss off with the rest! Defoe and Glen Johnson
Have both plied their trade with reasonable success at top 6 clubs since being relegated. Cassano? Now come on, the boy is lunatic but he's bloody talented. Juninho? He was talented. Lamela? Its silly to dismiss them all. Romans 8:25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. Bit of bible chit chat for you
Cahill - Good Player but good defenders come rare in relegation fodder. Joe Cole - was alright years ago Defoe - crocked, looked good against us which means nothing Carrick - alright I guess Johnson - Just **** off Di Canio - Massive **** Milner - Overrated beyond belief imo but each his own I guess Long - No Kanu - Unsanctioned legs Van Hooiidonk : You really have gone ****ing mental
Cassano?! Has he scored 100 league goals yet?! ****ing white Shola is what I call him I believe he's on a free by the way (Cassano, not Shola)... would you take him? I bloody wouldn't touch him with yours! I can't believe you rate Lamela? The blindest, most deluded Spurs fan would have difficulty spinning the Lamela myth any further. More overpriced **** under Levy. Juninho. I'm curious, was it his amazing spell at Celtic, or his disgraced return to South America that makes you think he was a worldy? He was a decent player, but if he was any good, he would have been at a top four club in his career.
Not taking sides in this debate - just taking a moment to appreciate the most skillful put down of a player I have read in months - nay years!
When we got relegated we has some so called good players. Like colo, Jonas, Owen, duff, martins, a fit Taylor, given, Enrique, butt, insomnia. The list is endless and that season when we went down some of them players where supposed to be worldies. It was the back room crap that ultimately got us relegated and bad management. Did Some of these players move on to have solid careers. No, but they had mid table careers and right now i have our take that for a couple of seasons.
I changed my post. Clicked post rely before I was finished. Doing this on an iPhone in bed with fecking man flu.
I have clearly forgotten we are a top 4 side who should be signing world beaters only. JPF and BRS - this miserable gay liaison will end in tears you know
I don't think Gary Cahill's ever been relegated, wasn't relegated at Bolton, they probably dropped because he left.
No he would would fall under the teams performing poorly category. I think he left in the January when they were relegated. He certainly didn't look any great shakes at Villa, and then Bolton were performing poorly despite his best efforts. There are not many you'd want from relegated or poorly performing sides, but they can work. I'm sure Benteke and Vlaar could do elsewhere for instance. I'm sure Sissoko, Janmaat or Perez could do well elsewhere. Not just in ability terms either, some managers can make players look worse than they are. Get them with an SAF or Mourinho etc, who actually know how to man manage people to get them into a good mental place to perform, all of a sudden they don't look inconsistent or flash in the pan. Joe Cole was a bright prospect at West Ham, but all too often he flattered to deceive. Mourinho gets hold and he starts to actually affect results.
Cherry picking players from relegated teams can be beneficial I'd say, providing you don't take too many of them in, in one go. The ones to watch out for are the lads who are good on paper but not prepared to graft. Look at Bruce getting Ben Arfa and Gaston Ramirez... two talented players who'd win any game if they were in form, yet two huge cancerous players to have in and around a team evidently. James McCarthy is a good example of a player who was picked from a relegated side, but the others Martinez signed from Wigan, Alcaraz, Kone... ****. Loic Remy another good example.
I think there is a running theme with the majority of players that go on to do well after leaving a relegated team. One big factor is age, a young player showing promise in a relegated side is initially a good sign for instance Darnell Furlong played a few games for QPR and looked bright and only due to be 20 in October. The other big characteristisc is their mentality to fight, Ben Arfa and Gaston arent fighters, the same could be said for a lot of the QPR players in particular. The british based tended to show heart, Clint Hill (limited in technical ability), joey barton (downward sprial). I think if some of the foreign inports showed the same kind of fight they would have stayed up. Now they are not worth considering going forward as they have shown they have no spine!
I'd agree with that. Look at the QPR squad that was relegated in 12/13. I couldn't believe how poorly that team played looking at the players, the likes of Granero in there, a Real Madrid regular almost. Then you look in hindsight, none of them (Remy aside) have really done anything since, they just don't have the graft in them. The reason for the sale to QPR fast becomes apparent. It only takes a couple of these types to ruin a squad harmony, QPR had a bucket full of them.
Wow! This thread has gone off at a bit of tangent. When Pardew was appointed I was extremely underwhelmed. With McLaren I'm indifferent.
Far worse with Pardew mate. That was laughter mixed with total disbelief and hatred. With McClaren, I'm not doing cartwheels but I'm not smashing my head off the keyboard either.
Speaking of McClaren - Sky sources are reporting that he is to be appointed today. Also, he's demanded his own backroom staff and Beardsley apparently is in line for a promotion. The latter is probably bollocks, but if the appointment of McClaren [who is underwhelming] is confirmed and it leads to Carver, Stone and Woodman leaving then there is some comfort in him taking the job.
