They were only in the second tier for a season, he played in 67 Serie A games ahead of their relegation.
Abel Hernandez averaged 22 league games per season with Palermo for 5 seasons at about 6 goals per season. He seems to be on par for continuing this record with Hull City.
He is the main driver behind this, did an incredible job in the academy and most people that I have spoken to (me included) didn't want him to get the main job purely because of how well he was doing there. He isn't good enough as a head coach/manager though and we will not get promoted with him at the helm imo. It is in his contract that he would go back to his former role if sacked but who knows whether that will really happen, be a shame if he didn't but can't blame him. I can't see the pool of youngsters being reduced if he isn't involved, those youngsters in the team currently are our best players and they will continue to play if not sold. I can however see less being introduced especially at the same time lwhich is currently the case.
This is why Greg Dyke annoys me. He moans that they aren't enough young players in the PL, but the fact is very few are ready to go straight into it. I don't see the problem as the championship is incredibly strong and there's an abundance of young English talent coming through at the minute. You used to almost automatically get into the U21s if you were of age and playing in the championship. Just look now players like Bryam, Cook and Mowatt. None of them have got into U21s yet and there's a lot more similar players. Tyrone Mings, Odubajo, Afobe etc
What do we do to strikers that sign for us ? This season Hernandez looked a world beater when he fist signed and played at home v West Ham and has hardly scored since Then the Dame came and scored 3 goals in 4 games now he looks to be tapering out. Midfielders are no better Diame scored for fun in August/September and
hasn't scored since although he has been out injured Elmo scored only one or two this season Brady was banging them in last season playing left midfield upto his injury nothing this season Huddlestone last scored v Sheff Utd in the FA Cup Livermore only scores v Spurs Ramierez has only scored 1 goal And the Centre backs, Curtis Davies got several headed goals last season and Chester had a couple but now nothing Its all very depressing
Bit of perspective needed. You got to take injuries into consideration and not every striker will score in every match.
I don't think Hernandez ever looked a world beater. He wws good at best, and that was only really in the Everton game and on his debut against West Ham. N'Doye has only had one bad game. Worrying and something to keep an eye on but overall he's been an excellent signing so far. Diame has been consistent when fit, no criticism deserved there. Elmo has always been a steady 2-3 goals a season man for us and still is. Brady scored 3 at the start of last season but two were penalties which skewed it. I like Brady but he's never been prolific. Long has mainly been played on the wing for Southampton, he scored enough for us as a striker and it's obvious we sorely miss his pace this season. I know I sound obsessed with him but it baffles me that people mock him while we're doing so badly up front now without him. If we still had him and Jelavic up front we'd be alright now.
They looked like they were becoming a very formidable combination by working to, from and off each other. Sadly we received an offer for Long too good to refuse. Jelly has done well this season imo having to work alone most games and with partners who had no, or little, anticipation.
