Quote from Buffon on Celtic: "They have fiery fans, but the fans can't score goals."

For what it is worth I agree with the sentiment that fans should participate in generating a good atmosphere. The key word being participate. Its 50/50 for me, the players and the fans.

I just don;'t agree with lambasting fellow supporters as a means to get them to help create a better atmosphere.
The thing is though mate, it is my opinion that you can't begin to solve a problem until the problem itself is recognised.

That isn't saying he doesn't appreciate the supporters creating an atmosphere though is it?

I personally believe that failing to cheer the players on is letting myself down, it's my club after all not theirs.

Sunderland players, over many years, would say the crowd were like having a 12th man ........... times have changed and it's sad.

According to the players for a start.

If you believe insipid people who don't contribute, to whichever situation they're in, aren't inferior then that's your choice.

I'd hate to be at a concert where you don't applaud or a comedy show where you don't laugh.
Even if you found it about as funny as leprosy?

No its just saying that it doesn't have an influence on him as a player. Possibly because he was in his prime world class..

As for Sunderlnad players saying that the crowd was like a 12th man, that is not to say that those players didn't understand their responsibility in helping the crowd.Just as the crowd help the players, its a two way street.

Its no more your club than it is the owners, the players or your fellow fans. It is our club. Turning on fellow fans is never going to be helpful.

Times have changed, you were born in a different era like you say. Who was responsible for raising the following generations?

It may be time to reserve a few standing areas again, with season tickets only, with an attractive discount for decibel levels :emoticon-0100-smile.

I don't believe that's what he's saying for a second, it sounds like a classic double bluff to me tbh.

And, as a final response ....... to say that itinerant mercenaries, like Graham, have as much invested in the club as me is laughable.

Sorry, I like a good debate but that's simply ludicrous and not worthy of a prolonged argument.

p.s. 3 of my 4 sons are in my avatar photo and none of them have ever lived within 150 miles of the town, I'd say I've done my bit.

Whatever. You suggested the people who makes noise are at fault, you're clearly an idiot and I'll be delighted if you don't waste your time responding to me. <ok>
Did not say I would not respond to you. I said I would not waste my time insulting you.
Intelligent debate about both sides of an argument is fine by me, if you can manage it without insulting a fellow poster. I would suggest that my support of the Club is as valuable as yours and the support of everyone who goes to SOL and that to suggest that Club will be better served by a crowd of 7000 than 42000 is an interesting notion to say the least.

It was strange yesterday that at home against LIverpool (who had struggled against Wimbledon) 10 out of 11 starting players didn't seem motivated. Didn't try even. Only Adam Johnson had a go. He got subbed for his troubles.

VIrgini needs to come out of the team. We have really missed the French lad through injury. The quicker he is back in the team the better

Gomez was terrible yesterday. How he was never taken off is beyond me. It was there for all to see. Bridcuttafter looking good

Had a strange game. He can count himself unlucky for being sent off for two weak yellow cards.

O'shea and brown really struggle against pace. They are excellent in the air and can win that battle all day but when our defence comes up against pace PVA apart they look very dodgy. I am a Wickham fan but yesterday he was awful. Didn't put any effort in at all. Didn't hold the ball up. Offered nothing.

Spurs away next. That was the low point last season. After that game we all thought we were down.

Can we get a reaction from the team next week? If not it's worrying times.

I did not suggest that and you know it, I suggested some of the crowd pull their weight to improve the atmosphere than others and that those people who don't pull their weight could serve their club better. A lot better.

I'd go further than saying some peoples support are more valuable than others. I'd go as far to say that some are detrimental to the club. An empty seat is more valuable then say a fan who complains more than encourages the team in my mind. There's a fan who complains around me in the south stand. He gets nasty looks as when I'm in other parts of the ground, I've had nasty looks for encouraging the team. Knowing I could get a season card this season I obtained tickets in a different part of the ground the season before. 11 league and cup games I attended at the SoL last season and the south stand is the only part of the ground where my support was looked down on by miserable moaning people. Just the way I feel from my experience at the match. I think there's fans who would encourage more if only it was deemed acceptable by all the doom mongers. 8 seasons in the top flight. The poor attitude from some sections of our support which stifles the atmosphere round them just isn't justified. The club deserves better in my opinion.

Watch how you go about this marra,You might end up getting called a happy clapper like me. I can see where your coming from tho.
Yesterday I was sat there with memories flashing back to the previous games where we used to get beat 0-4 often by Liverpool without getting into there half...now yesterday with 10 men looked like we were going to get a result from the game? and all I could hear from small sections of fans was moans and Giving players abuse...The players out there are ours and if your not going to support them please just shut up. And stop trying to run the game like your playing ****ing football manager or whatever it's called.<bubbly><bubbly><bubbly>

So you telling me Wickham didn't deserve abuse yesterday? even ****ing danny Graham ran more than him.

I see Big Gun is making a right tit of himself. The bloke who gave up on his own club giving others a lecture on home match atmosphere.

My view on home game atmosphere. When the Stadium of light opened it bounced, It was even better than it is now in our championship run under Keane. Fact is we're a sing when your winning club, and that is embarrassing as we never used to be. To all those who sit with your mouth shut expecting to be served entertainment before you get off your arse and get behind the team, you're an embarrassment to the club and you stick your middle finger up to over a century of first class support. These people are the worst thing to ever happen to the club and if any of you on here are one of these people hang your head in shame. You're inability to get behind your team is changing the face of our club for the worse. You're not alone, there's about 35,000 of you who should be hanging their heads with you.

Aye I give up my season ticket because there is no ambition at Sunderland football club at all. still I have only miss the Stoke cup game, stoke, man utd & Swansea league games this season. I'm a mug for keep on going back.
