Then, a thread will pop up titled "Free Dan and Joe" or some such, which too will be locked, and the thread-starter probably given a suspension. Half the forum will involve discussion of it for the next week or thereabouts, thus completely undermining the original intent of the message-sending suspensions.

The mods need to grow thicker skin. They disagreed with you that's it, if you start banning people for that then I doubt I'll be the only one who just leaves this forum.

But Beddy - the problem arises when not a single person outside of the moderating group agrees with you on that. It smacks of historic issues you may have with the pair, not to do with anything they've realistically done in this instance.

Now you may say "it doesn't matter what people outside of the moderating group think" but I'd respectfully suggest that's not the healthiest way of running a discussion forum.

I know I said I wouldn't get involved but the issue is you've banned two long-standing members of the forum for very little apparent reason. There are people who have done a lot worse and remain unbanned. There's very little consistency here.

The trouble is we cannot win which ever way we go.....if we don't take action our in box fills with complaints. If we do take action we still get complaints. We tried to keep this to a low profile. However others chose to highlight it and take the micky.
One of them complained officially saying he had been called a name. Left us with no choice really. Especially when it was repeated....
 
Only just seen this so may have missed somehing but imo this is one of the best modded boards on this forum. Chilco Beddy and co do a very difficult job with tact and humour. We don't always see what goes on in the background but if Joe and Dan have had bans then like CBK last week it was deserved.

Oh come on. You did have a choice. The two are long-standing and clearly know each other. Now they may have been being a bit silly, but there was no need to take that specific complaint seriously. I hardly think your in-box was filling with complaints over this either.

Just unban them. The point has been made.

I agree in general Lamb (didn't know CBK had been banned last week) but in this instance it's an overreaction. As you can basically see from everybody else's reaction. But yes, the guys generally do a great job, which is why this misjudgement has been surprising.

You had a choice, and in all respect, you made the wrong decision here. This is genuinely going to have a pretty negative impact on this forum, and worse still, it's going to make the historically reasonably good relationship between the mods and the users quite a bit more adversarial.
 
If Dan and Joe are permanently banned, then the forum will be worse off for it. They contribute an awful lot on here.. and surely a warning would have been better...

Just saying.

I'd like to know about these 'complaints'. Are there people on here seriously going to the mods because someone called someone a dickhead as a joke?

Yikes.
 
I actually thought it was a over-reaction to my post being deleted and me getting a msg, let alone Dan and Joe getting banned.
