Hull are ready to make a record-busting move for Manchester United’s England World Cup striker Danny Welbeck.

Steve Bruce will have to pay around £14million for Welbeck, who has been told his chances of first-team action will be limited under new boss Louis van Gaal just weeks after he started for the Three Lions against Italy and Uruguay in Brazil.

Bruce is after a replacement for Shane Long, who is a shock £12m target for Southampton just months after joining the Yorkshire side from West Brom in the January window.

And the Tigers' chief hopes Van Gaal will make a bold decision and cash in on Welbeck as he re-shapes the Old Trafford giants' squad with players of his own choosing.

Welbeck wants to keep himself in England manager Roy Hodgson’s plans, with Euro 2016 qualifying getting under way next month.

I'd be truly staggered if he went to Hull, for many reasons .......... Bruce may want him but I doubt that's enough.

Good move for all parties. Hull have the money after selling Long and Wellbeck would be an upgrade, makes you wonder why Southampton didn't go for him.

Over the odds price for United to reinvest.

Premier league and European games for him for the season ahead, who knows next season.

Wellbeck played for Bruce, in Bruce's finest hour as a sunderland manager...that humiliation of chelsea at their own place.

Man U will have big plans this season, doubt he'll be part of them..A fresh start maybe..

Great signing for them, bit gutted we did not go for him but Borini is a better fit for our system

I think the chances of us signing Wellbeck are just shy of zero, but it at least shows were ambitious and it might help us secure whoever we do end up signing as Long's replacement.

Those 2 things don't compute though, or do they?

How would someone being seen as second best to Welbeck encourage them to sign for Hull?

Just like Borini, not good enough for the big clubs and overpriced. He would do a decent job at Hull without pulling up any trees. When I was stood with the Man U fans last season, Welbeck was a laughing stock with them with cries of being like 'Bambi on Ice' with regards to his poor control and awkwardness.

His progress has been very slow hasn't it?

Perhaps a drop down into a smaller pond would push him on.

It shows why England are so poor if he's one of our 'top strikers' doesn't it?

Thing is with Welbeck he never translates his from from the training ground onto the pitch. Him and Cleverley are like watching a metronome on the training ground but they seem to just disappear most of the time on the pitch. That's not good enough for United, they can't produce 3 games per season and the rest of the time just wing it.

I would like them both to leave Old Trafford, Cleverley is 25 now and he's not going to start becoming the player we all hoped he would and Welbeck has blown chance after chance to link up with Rooney or RVP and he's been pushed out onto the wing. He's going to hinder the progress of Januzaj so for me he can go, Adnan is by far the greater talent.

I think he'd do well at Hull but he wouldn't want to go there.

Welbeck wont leave Man U. I rate him, not just as a forward but dropping back and defending in the middle of the pitch.

LVG won't keep a striker because he can defend, that's a Moyes trait! He's going to struggle for games is Welbeck. Maybe he'll get a shot on Saturday cos it doesn't look like RVP is gonna be ready but I'd bet my last quid that Van Gaal will not have a long term plan at United involving Welbeck as an integral part.

I don't think the likes of Rhodes, Ings or Deeney would be too upset if they were considered second best to a first choice Man United and England player.

I'd take Wellbeck all day long for Sunderland.

Welbeck can be used in more then just a strikers roll. For a team like united he could be a useful squad member.

He is a useful squad member but we're talking about him being given a chance, he won't get that chance at United. Welbeck can play left wing or number 9, he's useless in every other position. The boy has talent but he hasn't got the ability to read the game, nor the discipline required to force his way into the United first 11 permanently. If he was our only striker available and the window was open, we'd buy another, 100%.
