Sunderland have signed left-back Patrick van Aanholt from Chselsea. I say ‘Chelsea’, but the Dutch international’s link to Jose Mourinho’s side has been purely theoretical, having been one of Chelsea’s vast loan colony sprawled across Europe, clustered mostly at Vitesse Arnhem. After signing for Chelsea in 2009, Van Aanholt was sent out on loan for 5 successive seasons, and made just two Premier League appearances for The Blues. Van Aanholt becomes the Black Cats’ fourth summer signing, with Billy Jones, Costel Pantilimon and Jordi Gomez already arriving on Wearside. No figure has been provided on van Aanholt’s Sunderland move. Yet another ‘undisclosed fee’… Share 9 TAGS: Well is it or is it this
Northern Echo report around 1.5 million. If it's that low then there must be a buy back clause if the lad starts to shine?
So you got Van Aanholt eh! At first sight I'd say good buy. Sunderland lower table/mid table should be a good start for the lad in the EPL. Still have major doubts though, and for a couple of reasons. For starters, he had one outstanding season, made good progress in that season sure, but I would rather see him develop one or two seasons more in the Eredivisie to see if he can pull it off in consecutive seasons. He's been consistent so far, sort of a duplicate of Janmaat of Newcastle, fantastic going forward, can get caught out going backwards. Great speed and agility but his mentality gets him in the way sometimes, when things go bad, he goes invisible. One of the reasons why Van Gaal left him at home I think during the World Cup. Anyways, good technique, passing, vision as a regular Eredivisie player has. But he needs minutes, if he is to be considered as a back up or as a regular sub, he'll be forgotten soon. Conclusion: good buy if he is in the starting 11 for the entire season. Needs all the confidence a club and manager can give.
The very first rule is to make sure your material doesn't leave you open to a rocket. Was almost as easy as a derby at their place!
Nice one mate, I think Poyet is a good manager for instilling confidence and teaching restraint. Cattermole has never played better than under Poyet.
