van Aanholt 4 year contract?

When news broke that Patrick van Aanholt was having a medical with Sunderland AFC on Thursday, most guessed that it would be a permanent deal. The Dutch left back's time at Chelsea had obviously come to a close, and if Sunderland were coming in it was likely to be a permanent switch. And we all guessed right: reports from the Netherlands are claiming that van Aanholt has passed said medical and signed a four-year deal with the Black Cats.

We still have no idea what the fee will be or when the club will officially announce it, but assuming the reports are true -- and there's much reason we shouldn't trust Fox Sports Netherlands to get their reporting on a Dutch national team player right -- it's only a matter of time. A move to a Premier League club is good for everyone, I think: van Aanholt gets to play at a high level after learning his craft with our club, Sunderland get reinforcements in a position of need, and Chelsea will get some cash.

PVA was decent for us when we had him, that was about 4 years ago so you'd hope he's matures somewhat since then aswell. Solid. Nowhere near as good as Marcus Alonso though

BUT, people were underwhelmed when we signed Alonso, a former Bolton full back. Look what happened to him playing under Gus. His profile was raised.

I'm confident Gus can do the same with this lad.

I touched on this earlier, Alonso had a cracking debut then was ****ing woeful for 4-5 games, got used to the system etc and looked superb.

Every reason to believe a lad with Holland caps can do as well if not better.

De 23-jarige Van Aanholt behoorde tot de voorlopige selectie van het Nederlands elftal voor het WK in Brazilië. Hij debuteerde in aanloop naar het toernooi in Oranje, maar behoorde tot de laatste afvallers voor het WK.

Van Aanholt is from Chelsea, where he was allowed to leave. Despite an ongoing contract In recent years, played back, active in youth for FC Den Bosch and PSV on loan to Vitesse.

The 23-year-old Van Aanholt belonged to the preliminary roster of the Dutch team for the World Cup in Brazil. He debuted in run-up to the tournament in Orange, but belonged to the last drop outs for the World Cup.

Fair point but Alonso I presume has had non stop first team football whereas Van Aanholt has played reserve football and lower league loans. He has all the attributes to be very good though, needs time and a first team run though, I reckon Sunderland would be better off getting an experienced LB aswell to take pressure off him.

He's played 67 Eredivisie games in the last two seasons man.
