I take it that's his world cup over? Glad I laid my money on Columbia in the last 16 before the bookies cut the odds.

He's been found guilty and shamed in front of the entire world.

He's banned from the rest of the World Cup including even supporting his team mates.

He's missed out on the knockout stages of the greatest competition in the world at his prime. He'll be 32 next time even if Uruguay manage to qualify.

I'd say he's been punished even though I'd have hoped for longer.

Yeah but they'll appeal and he'll play against Columbia.

Uruguayan FA is an embarrassment. They shamed the last WC with Suarez handball and now this. Shame shame shame.

Ban sounds about right. That's Suarez out till November. It's a hefy fine given that he didnt injure anyone but the precedence makes it necessary, less would be too little. If he does it again it should be 2 year ban.

So if he or the Uruguayans appeal does that mean the punishment can be increased if they fail? - if that is so could the the initial leniency may have been made that way that they're giving him more rope to hang himself if he appeals ?

There is also speculation that the all football activity part of the sanction may mean he is banned from transfers too.

That of course would have significant ramifications for this summer's transfer window.

Liverpool, Barca and Real Madrid look on anxiously ...

I agree but he'll be out of his last World Cup, in his prime, and not even able to go to watch Uruguay.

He'll suffer that's for sure and deserves to.

I'm not interested in Liverpool suffering so the ban from the World Cup is fine by me.

    Full Statement -
The striker has been banned for nine international matches and suspended for four months after biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini

Liverpool and Uruguay striker Luis Suarez has been given a nine-match ban by Fifa and a four-month global suspension for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini.

As a result of the sanction, Suarez is set to miss Liverpool's first nine games of the new Premier League season, which includes fixtures against Manchester City, Tottenham and Everton.

Below is Fifa’s statement in full:

Luis Suárez suspended for nine matches and banned for four months from any football-related activity

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has reached a decision in the case related to Luis Suárez of Uruguay following an incident that occurred during the FIFA World Cup™ match between Italy and Uruguay played on 24 June 2014.

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has decided that:

    - The player Luis Suárez is regarded as having breached art. 48 par. 1 lit. d of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (FDC) (assault), and art. 57 of the FDC (an act of unsporting behaviour towards another player).

    - The player Luis Suárez is to be suspended for nine (9) official matches. The first match of this suspension is to be served in the upcoming FIFA World Cup™ fixture between Colombia and Uruguay on 28 June 2014. The remaining match suspensions shall be served in Uruguay’s next FIFA World Cup match(es), as long as the team qualifies, and/or in the representative team’s subsequent official matches in accordance with art. 38 par. 2a) of the FDC.

    - The player Luis Suárez is banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) for a period of four (4) months in accordance with art. 22 of the FDC.

    - A stadium ban is pronounced against the player Luis Suárez in accordance with art. 21 of the FDC as follows: the player Luis Suárez is prohibited from entering the confines of any stadium during the period of the ban (point 3). The player Luis Suárez is prohibited from entering the confines of any stadium in which the representative team of Uruguay is playing while he has to serve the nine-match suspension (point 2).

    - The player Luis Suárez is ordered to pay a fine in the amount of CHF 100,000.

The decision was notified to the player and the Uruguayan FA today.

“Such behaviour cannot be tolerated on any football pitch, and in particular not at a FIFA World Cup when the eyes of millions of people are on the stars on the field. The Disciplinary Committee took into account all the factors of the case and the degree of Mr Suárez’s guilt in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Code. The decision comes into force as soon it is communicated,” said Claudio Sulser, chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committe

i would agree if it was his first offence. but he has previous history of this kind of **** and is just a horrible human being. to try and bite an opponant in a sporting event on the field of play is a disgrace. he has already done it domesticly in both our and the dutch league, now he has disgraced himself again on the world stage. also his previous with the racism thing against evra just shows what a dispicable person he is and all of this should have been taken into account
