Lets keep it realistic though, the lad simply isn't a good enough player for us to do anything major, he doesn't merit a song or boo's.

Can I suggest giant inflatable carrots in the South stand, maybe?

I can't recall reading a club statement which has such a clear bitter feel to it (especially when tied to the images they chose to put on twitter and their website). That's not having a snipe (they state themselves they are bitter) but more a curiosity as I think the player moving - on the face of it - has raised nothing other than ambivalence from most fans. I hope Jack doesn't feel the need to respond but given the actions of the player following (and during) the derbies I suspect he will post a comment here or there despite being counselled not to by Newcastle.

Club comment on Colback departure.
After the announcement that Jack Colback has signed for Newcastle United, SAFC has issued the following statement:
“Jack is a player we have nurtured and developed through our academy system since he was eight years old. We gave him the opportunity to become a professional footballer and are therefore extremely disappointed in the events that have led to his departure from the club.
“This wasn’t about money - the club agreed to all of the terms demanded of us during discussions and we were always led to believe that Jack wanted to stay with us. At his and his representatives’ request, final talks were put on hold until the club secured its top flight status. To our dismay however, we were subsequently never given the chance to negotiate with him to stay.
“For him to then leave the club that has supported him throughout his formative years in such a manner, with no chance for Sunderland to recover any of the significant investment that it has made in him as a player, has left a bitter taste."

That's an unusually strong statement released by the club.

They've made no attempt to hide their irritation and bitterness.

Very surprised to see that.

Surely one of the clubs resident wordsmiths could think of a 'we don't give a ****, you're average as ****' style song then?

Surely that would hit deeper than boos and carrots?

Could be a blame shifting exercise as cover for the arse the club made of things.

I do get what others are saying about him wanting to play for his boyhood team but it also shows the power of the agent in situations like this.

When Larsson was dragging on I said we should tell him and his agent, this is the offer on the table, take it or there's the door.

We should have done the same with JC weeks ago, though again, at the same time, I can understand why the club feel like they've wasted valuable investment monies on the lad.

Whoever let our clubs player contracts get to this state of affairs should be shown the door too.

Didn't Reidy let a couple of your players rot in the reserves a few years back? Does seem like the process would work better if clubs were willing to do that. But they aren't.

I've never seen a club statement like that from Sunderland.

I hope his career takes off in the same way Darren Bent's did when he went to another humongous club with a top class manager <ok>
