Lovren cost about £2m less than Gaston, I'm not sure there's a real distinction to be made there? Osvaldo's failure to deliver was more off-pitch than on, and either way him and particularly Gaston have worked out better than the likes De Ridder, Mayuka, Forren, Gazzaniga, Tadanari Lee etc. You have to pay high transfer fees because otherwise, odds are you'll just sign a bunch of not good enough players. I'd much rather see us bring a mixture of the two in - a few cheaper options with one or two 8 figure players - than just go all in on mediocre, unwanted players hoping they find form here.

In the summer Saints need to do the following

    Release: Barnard, Forte, Guly,

Move on: Hooiveld, Yoshida, Fox (think transfer already agreed) Sharp, Osvaldo

    Loan out: Gazzanigga,

Transfer in: Caulker , new wide player, new striker

    Job Done!!!!

Caulker? No thanks. Another overrated English player. Wide player wouldn't suit our system really, but I agree about the striker and we should also buy another left back as cover I think.

Still being told that nothing is happening with Shaw. The guy asked about a bit and few people were surprised he even asked.

Rowe isn't ready(imo) Turnbull looks ok, were as Stephens has stagnated hence why he was loaned out. Hopefully he will get back on track.
We need another wide player, Striker, Cb and GK at least. Sims will be brought in to replace Guly.

Don't know really, whenever I have seen him play he has looked good. But I don't really know where he would fit in our system. Maybe on the wing?, but then we have better players in that position already.

I don't think we will sell Shaw in the near future, and we'd have to have a bidding war of incredible proportions taking place for us to even consider it. He's the symbol of our academy and if he stays, with all the interest in him, the rest will want to stay too, so he's worth much more to us than whatever money we might be able to get for him in my opinion.

That's almost exactly my opinion. I can't say for certain that we won't sell Shaw at the end of the season, the lad may be dazzled by bright lights, after all. However, if he's grounded, like I think he is, and has ambitions to achieve big things with a smaller club [which would be the bigger achievement] as opposed to jumping on a big club bandwagon, then I think we'll keep him, and it will be of major benefit to both club and player.

If we really can't keep him then, as the Canadian sports presenter advised Krueger, he has to become the costliest LB defender ever. Whoever decides to cough up, Saints need to take the shirt off their backs. £40M+ [yes, pounds] is not too much by any means, because it's basically saying hands off, unless you're stupid enough.

I totally agree. I would rather spend less on buying players, so we can keep our current players.

Moreover, what's happened to Scott Sincalir? Can't he even get a game at WBA?

Haha. That made me smile. An alternative view might be to draw an analogy with Bridge. Someone who went to City for the big money and got used to taking the money without actually playing. There's a lesson there for any youngster!

Turning to the earlier comment on Targett, check out the you tube video ' When England comes calling' and the run / cross from Targett. Very Shaw-esque!! I think he is very nearly ready. I wonder if it would be possible to play them both, with Shaw going more forward as Bale did for Spurs. All will become clear in time I suppose!

If anything Targett would play ahead of Shaw. Targett has better crossing and is great at free kicks and corners.
