SAVED CLUB, BROUGHT IN SB, FINANCED PROMOTION, FINANCED CURRENT TEAM > NAME CHANGE

Thanks Mr Allam for dragging the club from the edge of the abyss and giving us some of the best times in our history.

PREMIER LEAGUE < THE FUTURE OF THE CLUB

Assem is ****ing with the future of the club. This name change is stupid but it's not even the worst thing. Just cos we're in the PL people are ignoring the shocking financial situation we're still in. It wasn't started by him, but it could have been on the way to being sorted by now and instead he's risking the club by refusing to deal with the council.

Allam has successfully done what all owners of debt-ridden clubs dream of doing. He has got us into the Premier League where the potential financial rewards are greatest.
What would your strategy have been in his place to clear the debt?

The only problem is, he hasn't managed to reduce the debt in the process, in fact the debt is continuing to increase despite the revenue increase.

Didn't Mr. Allam say that if he had waited 24 hours he could have bought the club for £1?
For me, this is definitely not one of our greatest ever seasons simply because I'm not enjoying it. Why save a dying man and then hang him? Not everyones take on things, but that's my personal view.

In order to get a team promoted an owner has to finance the club heavily = increase in debt.
To build a team that can survive its first season in the Premier League an owner has to finance the club heavily = increase in debt.

Its called speculation to accumulate.

Next season we won't have to buy a full team like we did this time and some of the PL cash will start to alleviate the debt. The longer we stay in this league the better chance we have of reducing the debt.
Allam's financial / promotion strategy was the only one open to him to reduce the debt long term and so far he's gone about it pretty well.

I would pretty much agree. I just don't understand why he wants to jeapordise this by causing disruption and alienating customers. Whether you are pro or anti name change you have to agree this is what he has done.

I've always said that decision was pretty baffling in a business sense. For me the biggest damage will be done to reduced sales figures if he tries to add the new name to replica kits and merchandise.

Buy the stadium. Develop it. Make **** loads of cash.

Same as his really. When he was actually interested in making the club self-sufficient he was alright.

That bit's simply not true. No team stays up in the PL for any length of time without spending. Look at the likes of Norwich and Stoke. Big spending year on year but they're no better off than us now and we've spent nothing in the scheme of things. We'll need to keep up with the level those clubs are at if we want to stay up a few years. If we try and be frugal next summer we'll get relegated. But the issue is exactly the same as the one we faced last time we were in the PL. Do we spend in order to stay up and maximise income? Or do we be frugal and risk big losses from relegation? It's an awkward situation so I can totally understand if we don't spend big, but we'd be fools to expect to just stay up anyway.

We need to look at increasing the income to be self-sufficient.

Thanks for saving the club Mr Allam, however 3 years later your mask has slipped and we can all see what a spiteful man you are.

Let's hope there is a smooth changeover so that we don't see a 4th anniversary.

No offence, but you've made the place stink.
It's the dictator side of it that stinks the most, not listening to anybody or taking advice and thinking he can scare fans into submission.

Hail to the King, baby!

I can't imagine what the last 3 years would have been like without his generosity and willingness to dare to do what no one else was prepared to do.

In fact, in celebration of the great man, this thread seems a good place as any to ask the following:

If Dr Allam hadn't stepped in and saved the club 3 years ago, who would you be supporting now and why?

Well said Happy Tiger-lets see Allams premier league, Steve Bruce, Tom Huddlestone-no Allams administration. Seems an easy choice.

Our fundamental problem is, that outside of the TV money, our finances are appalling.

Matchday revenue is crap, the club shop is utter crap, our sponsorship deals are a joke and so much of what we do is no better than League One standard.

We really could do with an MD who knows how to run a football club.

I agree. But this was always the same since we've been at the KC. So you agree Adam was crap at it too??

Seriously why doesnt Exiled apply for the job, I'm not taking the piss here. Go for it he has some great ideas.

So lets say Allam bought the stadium, developed it to increase capacity, developed the surrounding area including the hotel etc.
How much would that have increased the debt?
When we were averaging 15,000 attendance how would the additional 15,000 empty seats have generated cash?
Where would this mythical **** load of cash come from?

You argue that the Premier League does nothing to reduce a club's debt burden. So why is every owner / (successful) businessman in the football league desperate to get into it? Do you know something they don't?

You use Norwich and Stoke as examples, but I would say Southampton is a much better one.
If we can use our success to develop a good youth set-up like them, more of the PL cash can be diverted to paying off the debt.

Maybe the trial we are offering this Dutch kid is a step along that road, I don't know and neither does anyone else on here.

Craig
I thought they'd revealed their true colours? Have you changed your mind?

Heisenberg, I take it you're referring to a comment I made about Mr Allam on the day he sacked Nick Barmby and also the slant Ben tried to put on it in a recent post?

If you go back to that post and read it properly you will see I accepted I made the comment, but explained that (like everyone on this forum on that day) I was angry and bitter towards Allam for sacking Barmby.

I've been angry with a lot of people in my life, as I'm sure you and everyone else has, but I don't set my opinion of someone in stone after one incident.

Since that day Mr Allam has put his money where his mouth is and supported the team significantly enough to gain promotion to the BPL and also buy a full team last summer. He also had the ambition to bring in a manager of SB's calibre.
So in answer to your question I was angry and doubted our owner after the Barmby debacle, but I have changed that opinion based on his subsequent actions.

That's what Duffen and Co did and we all know where that got us.

This is spot on, that side of things hasn't improved at all under Allam, which given he's such a 'successful business man' seems strange.

Surely you maximise your current revenue streams before looking for new ones (i.e. the name change).
