Thanks for the mention Paul, really nice of you to do that, enjoyed the podcast and will be listening next season. I'm even following you now on twitter
A big bad shock. My condolenses to family. I been away, out of touch and came on here to see what was happening in QPR land. This is far, far worse than anything i was anticipating.
I haven't been on here as much as I used to, however, I felt I needed to visit my old friend in Not606. I was to be honest, going to put some smart arsed remark about Hughes going to Stoke and ruining the good job Tony Pulis has done there, and I saw this thread. I never knew Brix in person, but I like alot of others had communication with him via private messages. When I was in and out out of work fro 2 1/2 years, and my my dad wasn't well he provided me with a shoulder to cry on / a listening ear. He never knew me, so he could have just deleted the messages however, he always replied. This is a shock to me and I can't find the rights words to say. RIP Brix. Thanks for listening and providing guidance when I needed it. Your family and friends on here will miss you.
I realise it's an old thread now so sorry for bringing it back up if it upsets people again, but I'd just like to add my regards to it. I've been on the site the last couple of nights, but I've been catching up on things that have happened since I was last on a few weeks ago so I've only seen the news tonight. Despite as some of you know having been on various QPR forums for a few years now I only knew Brix through this one, and even then it was mainly on the modding side we spoke. There's not much I can add to what's already been said about him personally, but as an outsider it was always apparent how highly regarded he was on here. When someone famous dies the news is full of other celebrities saying how nice they were and how they were glad to have them as a friend even though until that point you didn't even know they'd met each other. With Brix it's not like that, you know it's genuine because you could link that sticky at the top of the board to any number of threads from the last few years and they'd all read the same way. On the moderators forum the same sentiment has been expressed as has been on here. He wasn't as regular a poster on there as others of us are, but he was still well known and respected, particularly amongst the longer serving mods who'd seen his contribution on there more often. I know the status he had has influenced the way at least one other forum is moderated, mainly because there's things I've done as a result of having seen Brix do something similar, so although there's less of a personal connection for me he will still be missed as that guide. My thoughts are with his family and friends, which of course includes you other QPR supporters.
I was gone when I got the news so didn't have an opportunity to comment. Never met the man but felt I didn't need to. A consummate gentleman and all round nice guy on here. A man with a sharp wit, a keen eye for fairness and a deep-held sense of justice. I genuinely feel privileged to have "known" (in some sense at least) what amounted to be a very special person. His untimely passing was and still is a tragic loss to his family who's story I read with great interest when posted up on this Site by his son. He made his mark on a lot of people on this Forum, some a deal more so than he ever realized. A belated Godspeed to you old boy. Rest in peace.
We saw that you contributed to Barnados in his name Swords, that was very generous of you. I guess there is no chance of you coming over for the Birmingham match?
Keep that bugger away from the do Staines would never be able to resist him in drag character and 25mg of Rohypnol and its good night Eileen Brixton will be pissing himself if any of us got pregnant
When is that game mate? I was actually at the opening day game against Wednesday. Great weekend and a few swift halves. Can't beat the pint of Smooth in Old Blighty!
You should have come down the Crown and Sceptre, we had quite a gathering that day. Birmingham is September 14th, that is the day we celebrate Brix.
Yes, Brix was a great character, Swords, with all the attributes you mention. His presence on this board was huge. Hope you can make it on September 14th
It's unbelievable that the time has flown so quickly. Three years today since the 'Modfather' of this board passed. RIP BrixtonR You're still missed on here, and of course in the real world.
And just to put a face to the person, BrixtonR is David Beck and is seen in the first photo second from left ... http://www.privatehirenews.co.uk/magazines/issue38/red_routes.pdf
