Billy Whitehurst was the perfect example of PLT's stats not telling the full story argument.

His record with us was 1 in 4, which on paper wasn't amazing, but his impact on the team was enormous, leading to him becoming Newcastle's record signing at nearly £250k in 1985.

He's one of a long list of players who never matched their City record at any club after moving on.

In the year or two before before he was sold he was scoring at a rate of one goal in two games.

He's a perfect example of a big club buying a smaller club's player and then making no effort to play to his strengths - making the deal a waste of money for them.

seen him player on a number of occasions......absolute class keeper....just needs a run of first team games again

Dont see this one happening myself. Why pay £1.8m as has been reported to Besiktas when you can get a much better one for Free.? That money should be used and put towards a 2nd goal scorer imo.

Now that Kasper looks like seeing out his contract with Lesta at least and Shay Given being greedy ? maybe ? ,, Lets get Mark Schwarzer in for a season.

The biggest issue with Alan McGregor is that his "well known" off pitch lifestyle is not a good one at all. Very much another Jimmy Bullard unless Steve Bruce keeps him under house arrest during all the non-football hours the players have. As Chester and Rosie has already said, the new players must fit into the squad ethos we now have otherwise 2009/10 could well happen all over again sadly.

If his "lifestyle" is based around women rather than drink and drugs it shouldn't be too detrimental to his football. Most of us have to chase around pubs and clubs to even get one woman a night but I'm sure he can send out a lackey to pick up a few and take them to his place every night he's not training the next day.

IF whats been rumoured to be the case is true then he wont be good for team spirit. I dont care what women they get or go with as long as they are not fiddling around with current players partners. We dont want an Eric Cantona situation here that developed at Leeds way back when do we ?

I thought we didn't have to look as far as Leeds to find examples of that.

I know some people think I'm trying to bankrupt the club but would it hurt that much to buy Mannone now?

Why when we can do better for alot less Now.? Vito imo can wait unless Arsenal drop the price which is unlikely to happen. I would go with a £1m now and £1m if we stay up deal, but i dont see Arsenal doing charity work anytime soon sadly.

True but that example always puts a smile on my face thinking about it for some reason. lol. :emoticon-0116-evilg

But in all seriousness Keeping a happy ship and team spirit/ethos is going to be 60% of the reason why we will stay in the PL imo. 40% will be down to talent.

McGregor is a ****ing great keeper, has a naughty edge to him, but not to the detriment of his game, I would be extremely happy if we got him.

Celtic supporters are the bitterest bunch of ****ers I have ever come across.

OLM and Peter, you/we used to have some great, constructive conversations on the old 606, even if you/we didn't always agree.

Fcuk Fraser, he's a cnut anyway

Dogs are much better than cats.....

How are we bitter? every Celtic fan in this thread has said McGregor is a quality goal keeper and would be a great signing for Hull, at 1.8 million hes a steal, real bargin buy and if hes a real option for the Hull board you would be daft not to take it

Not totally. "IF" this McGregor story is indeed true and happens then we can still get in Mark Schwarzer for a season and that would be very good business. We need an experienced PL gk for next season which Schwarzer is and McGregor is not. In fact McGregor only played 7 times last season for Besiktas in turkey of all places ffs. imo, Schwarzer for the short term and McGregor for the long term especially if it gets Aluko to sign a new long term deal with Hull City.

He actually played 26 times for Besiktas letting in 39 goals (1.5 a game seems a lot to me) and 34 times in total (International games)

****ing loved the stream of abuse from both Peter and OLM. It was like watching a fierce tennis final with the odd ballboy coming on for good measure.

What was the abuse from me? I was always a serve and volley man but it would take me all my time to manage a serve never mind a volley now.

Its not really a lot, as OLM said the football there is more open. Stockdale kept 9 clean sheets in 24 appearances, which means about 37% of his appearances were clean sheets. I don't know what the average for the Championship was, but I imagine that's just above it.

I once found myself in a situation with a couple of stunning Thai girls who suggested a threesome...." it will be like winning the lottery "....they insisted....

They were right, we all stripped off and had six matching balls.

Fair enough, you haven't been, but I grew up and live in the West coast of Scotland and they're awful here, and a lot of them are my friends, but most definitely bitter.
