There really is little point trying to engage with such abject buffoonery as demonstrated (again) by Duckhunter, but the thread was about whether a woman could effectively manage a football team (yes, by the way, once such archaic and idiotic misconceptions perfectly demonstrated on this thread are erased), not whether men are better at football, or physically stronger. That's not actually being disputed.

But as I say, I rather suspect that we should let the troll go back to his cave and ignore it.

What a load of nonsense. What on earth is the point of having a forum , posting a subject up for discussion and then just abusing anyone who disagrees with you. You seem to want a forum of pals, where everyone has the same interests, opinions and all sit around toadying up to each other.

On to the specific point of the thread, just you saying "yes" does not make it so. A less arrogant answer would be "yes, in my opinion". You could then go on to explain your opinion and list the reasons why. Just saying "yes" then abusing people who don't agree is not a constructive or well thought through reply. In my opionion a women could not manage a professional mens team. The reasons are many and varied, and I wouldn't want to bore you progressive metro sexuals with them now.

You are obviously trolling. The best women golfers are really good. Very bad example.

The best women golfers are very good, but they're not as good as men. Its a non contact sport, why can't it be mixed. My old fella is a far better player than me, hits the ball a lot longer. We play regularly and have a competitive round. Its competitive because of the handicap system, not because I have to start nearer the hole and play off the reds.

People aren't given stick for having an opinion. Plenty of people have completely different views and opinions on all manner of issues, football related or otherwise. They're given stick for expressing that opinion in a completely disrespectful and condescending way as your views have been throughout this thread, not just towards female footballers and managers, but also towards men who support female footballers/managers. Surely you're mature enough to know it's not so much what you say but how you say it.

So your assertion is that I'm arrogant in giving an opinion without an explanation. Then you go on to give your opinion. Without an explanation. Excuse me if I continue to struggle a bit with you. Perhaps it's my weak, metrosexual mind.

Okay, let's play it your way for a moment.

I believe (strongly) that women have as effective social/interactive skills, emotional intelligence and the same mental capacity as men. These are the three basic core tenets of an effective manager. Therefore in conclusion I believe that women can manage (throughout) as effectively as men.

Now it's your turn.

I disagree, if those were the only attributes needed then Stephen Hawkins would be in the frame for the man city job.

First thing you need is instant respect, if Hawkins came rolling into a premiership dressing room, the players may think "wow I've met a genius" , doesn't mean they want to hear him plan for Saturdays game. Same with Maggie Thatcher, she could lead , frighten and inspire men, but couldn't manage a football team. Bloody hell some fantastic footballers, guys who were tactically great on the pitch, jimmy case springs to mind, never managed to get a decent coaching job. Women in my opinion lack the basic knowledge and football intelligence, because its basically a mans game. Its not disrespectful to say so, anymore than its disrespectful of mrs duck to shoo me out of the kitchen when we have guests.

You see, this can be done without all the disrespectful phrasing.

I take your point, but I do disagree - I think if someone like Thatcher had put her considerable intellect to learning about football and it's tactical intricacies then she could have been (in terms of her capability) an astonishingly good football manager. Fergie-esque in fact (there are more than passing similarities).

Your point about commanding respect in the dressing room is everything to do with the (wrong) attitudes of those in the dressing room, and nothing to do with a female incapacity to effectively understand football.

There does seem to be a good number of women taking their coaching badges although the number drops a lot for the UEFA B. Looks like they may just need the opportunity somewhere.

This off the FA website:

Over 27,000 females have successfully attained FA coaching qualifications (including 200 Level 3 - UEFA ‘B’ - coaches) and full-time Women’s Football Development Officers (WFDOs) are employed across the country in the County FAs to support local female football.

I said earlier in the thread that I have had female bosses . They were great, decisive, tough, fair, honest and at times flirty, especially the fit one. One I still call boss when I see her, even though I don't work for her anymore. But, they could not run a football team anymore than my dog could. Nature and years of "conditioning" have meant women are just not very good at football. Seriously , have you seen some of the goal keeping. Truly shocking standard.

When it comes to work, professions or vocation, any person is capable of doing anything, no matter what their gender.

or race, or religion or sexual orientation.

There was a strongly held view at one time (60s and 70s) that black players weren't up to top flight football. Say that today and people would laugh in your face.

This pretty much sums it up sir.

Actually you know what else used to be a 'mans game'? Writing, science, medicine, politics, music, acting, art, driving, technology, careers and countless other pursuits. Things change and in another 20 or 30 years dinosaurs like Sepp Blatter will be dead and who knows what the great game will be like.

When I went to University in the late 60s, women needed 3-4 grade As at A level to get into the medical school, whereas a man needed 2Bs and a C. Absolutely blatant. I wanted to do forensic science and was told not to as I would never be allowed to go beyond a lab tech.

However, as I said before, although women taking their coaching badges have a contribution to make, it will be a very long time (if ever) before a woman coaches above the lower leagues as it will be very hard to get the requisite experience. As for the top leagues, remember that jobs are few and thousands of men don't make it either.

Well you lasted one post without bigotry. Every journey of a thousand miles and all that.....! Godders point regarding black players is absolutely nail on head.

Seriously , have you seen some of the goal keeping. Truly shocking standard.

Yes I bloody well have, and I bet I've seen more than you, and the standard can be great. Stop talking about something you know nothing about. I bet you're basing that view on seeing a couple of calamitous errors in the World Cup or something and are using that to generalise all female goalkeepers. Well by that same token, someone watching Rob Green in the last World Cup or er, David James in general could say all men goalkeepers are crap.

Nature and years of "conditioning" have meant women are just not very good at football.

Well, if we ignore the fact that some women are very good at football, you don't need to be good at football or even have played football to be a successful manager. Example: Andreas Villas Boas. Plus, plenty of managers, even top managers, never played at a particularly high level of football therefore they can be seen as not very good at football relative to the best players.

Differences in physique I'll concede, but 'conditioning'!!! You learn conditioning....you can't inherit it. By its nature, women's football will be different from men's football, but it doesn't mean that it can't reach a high standard with sufficient training and some money thrown at it. And as for goalkeeping...not many women are 6'4...that's a big goal to protect. Kids have the same problem. I only watch women's international matches, but I have also noticed that they haven't learnt the histrionics you see in the male game.

A woman's place is in the kitchen, aint that right Ducky?
I wonder if they'll ever introduce the offside rule in woman's football, be a tough call because women just don't get it do they?

Just ask these forward thinking chaps:

I always discuss football with a Portsmouth fan (though his team is immaterial). Recently we were discussing an offside goal and he said that one of the two defending team players between the attacker and the goal when the ball was kicked had to be the goalkeeper. He was most surprised when I said no...it could be any two players if the GK had gone walkabout. It just usually included the GK. So not even men watching all the time get that rule right.

I must admit, I thought I was back in 1975 reading this thread, then I realised I couldn't be because 'man' hadn't invented the internet :)

Seriously, are there people still in 2013 with these views on women? Mankind (I use the general term to mean all humans - not the politically correct one) can do any job or sport as well as all other members of the human race, independent of their origin, gender or sexual orientation. As Fran said 'conditioning' is BS as it is learned. Women that succeed in any area of business or sport or whatever are normally far better than a man in the equivalent role as they have had to overcome the bigotry heard in some of these posts.

I value other people's opinions, but honestly, people...we are in 2013 and educated...do some of you really believe the crap that is being said?!!!
