I take great offence to be likened to a bigot.

Can I borrow your Ivory tower for the weekend please?

The first stage would be for more women to get involved in coaching at lower levels, this will I'm sure happen in time as the women's game grows. All Hope Powell is saying is she enjoys her job. Of course, our favourite newspaper has spun it into her saying she's God's gift so that we can all scoff at her. Next.

Sweeping generalization and im sure the lefty pc equal ops brigade will shoot me down for this. On the whole women do not make as good managers as men. Part of this is the inherent mysogeny within many men. Different skill sets.

Yep, you're right. This is a generalisation and wholly inaccurate. I can't believe that in 2013, some men still have this stereotypical attitude towards woman. And by the way, I don't support left or right wing ideologies. I'm more of the antipolitical type, a libertarian socialist if you like.

You should have no problem making that kind of statement if it's backed up by well-researched data. More often than not though, people say this kind of thing based on nothing but their own ill-informed hunches.

Not many young girls strive to be a football manager for a men's team. Or be a referee or linesman in the men's game. Another problem with the managers is that too many of them are ex-players.

That may be true - it is important to distinguish between "not many women want to" and "women are not able to". I would like to live in an environment where no assumptions are made along the lines of the latter - be it about gender, nationality or anything else you might think of that can be used to discriminate.

There are certain professions that blokes wont be very good at, midwifery for example, and there are certain jobs women cant do. Playing and managing football is certainly one of them. Have you seen the standard of their game, it's dire , particularly the keepers. Football is played by men, should be managed and officiated by men, end of. Even chicks don't like the women's game and would rather watch men. Instead of filling their silly little heads with dreams of managing or officiating men's football, schools should be preparing them for real life.

The funny thing with chicks is that they do make good bosses in certain industries, but when they do they tend to surround themselves with men. I've worked for 2 chicks in my time ( one was a bit of a hottie and one was a 10 pinter) and both came down hard on other women, really discriminated against them and only promoted men.

I know in this day and age people jump at the opportunity to promote themselves as non-discriminatory and supporting equality. However, you still have to accept that there are differences between genders. Men and women, in certain areas, differ and excel at different things.

It's a fact that men are generally physically faster, and stronger than women.
In terms of mental attitudes, women do tend to be governed more by emotional thinking, and men more by objective thinking.

Of course, this is an overview, and each individual person will differ. However, in general, men and women are better at different things. Certainly in terms of playing, men are on the whole intrinsically better footballers than women, largely due to physical advantages. In terms of being football managers, I personally maintain that men are more suited, on the whole. Men do tend to command more authority, and respond to situations with more objectivity and rationality than women. In years to come, there may be some top women managers in the Premiership, but for me, men will always dominate football in terms of playing and managing.

That's not being discriminatory, I'm all for equal rights and opportunities. However we have to acknowledge that there are differences between different types of people.

Some women end up aping men in order to succeed...often because they have to. It is possible that the men were promoted because they were best for the job, but also possible that these women promote men to avoid competition for the nominal woman on the board role. A little bit of advice, lads...never trust a woman who openly says she doesn't like women...what she is actually saying is that I am unpleasant and deceitful and women can see right through me. You can get prejudice in any situation though...there was a manager at one shop who was gay and promoted any young boy rather than any experienced woman. You can't fight that or prove it...just move on.

I wish I'd ever worked for a hottie (male variety). After forty years of work, I have never worked for a fanciable manager.

Oh Ducky, you must be trolling. Please tell me you're trolling.

I'm pretty sure I've watched a damn sight more women's football games than you have at Premier League and International level and I assure you the standard of football is not dire. Far from dire. You get brilliant goals, blinding skill and amazing passing moves. It's funny how people like you compeletly ignore the history and structure of women's football and the impact this mas. Specifically most clubs are around 35 years old at most, many clubs a lot younger so women's football is relatively young in this country. There are also far fewer teams and players. The majority of players aren't paid so someone could be a fantastic player but then drop out because they can't make a career out of it. To completely ignore these factors makes any criticism of the quality of football in comparison to men's football completely pointless.

As for the keepers, I take offence to that as Pompey's goalkeeper, Sadie Blakely, is a brilliant keeper. An excellent shot-stopper and great at crosses. Against Watford she made a spectacular double-save to keep the score 1-0 to us. So this stereotype that women goalkeepers are dire is a load of rubbish propogated by people who watch the occasional match and see an odd calamitous error and from that assume women goalkeepers in general are terrible. I assure you, there are anything but.

    Yeah Twitter would suggest otherwise.

I suppose preparing them for real life in your mind means preparing them to serve men, do all the washing, cleaning, cooking while worshipping the ground their man walks on.

I used to hope that too. Sadly I think that really is what he believes when he leaves his cave each morning. As I say, depressing.
