You're definitely right that things were building up before the derby, although there was that brief spell after the January signings where things looked a bit better.

Apart from last season, I don't remember the last time we played good football, probably under Robson (how depressing!). For that reason, I wouldn't mind pardew staying, but I wouldn't be surprised if he goes. A lot of people are against him now and they're not going to change their minds.

Thanks for the welcomes!

For me Pardew has lost the fans which makes his position intenable.
We're a tolerant bunch and backed him for the bulk of the season.
All we wanted to see was progress.
There's nowt wrong with losing... as long as you learn from it.
Unfortunately Pardew's love affair with Jonas and other out of form players hampered our development this season and he showed that he isn't capable of leaarning.
If Pardew stays I back the team.
If Pardew goes I back the team.

Alan Pardew Question & Answer Session Cancelled
1 hour ago by Graham Porter

Alan Pardew’s question and answer session at the end of last season on Radio Newcastle, made a lot of headlines.

A repeat performance was due to happen this Friday (19th May) with the manager taking questions from 7pm until 8pm.

Alan Pardew However, Radio Newcastle have announced that the event has been cancelled, no reason has been given and no new date/time given.

The question and answer session was much anticipated with fans now divided as to how they perceive the manager and Alan Pardew having gone on the offensive in recent days, for example stating that in the circumstances it was an achievement that Newcastle stayed up.

The cancellation will no doubt set plenty of tongues wagging as fans speculate as to exactly why the phone-in/interview has been knocked on the head, especially so late in the day.

Whether this move has any bearing on Pardew’s future, or the cancellation has a perfectly innocent explanation, it won’t stop supporters talking.

One thing we can at least rule out is that Alan Pardew isn’t unveiling the signing of Wayne Rooney this Friday night.

Everybody say Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Wasn't really the Sunderland game that did it for me, yeah it was a pitiful performance but it was proceeded by possibly our best performance of the season and we lost heavily basically because of the effort we put in to the Benfica game.

It was the childish press conference aiming digs about Sunderland only dreaming of Europe, followed by the horrible performance against Liverpool and then Pardew claiming a point and an ok 45 minute performance at WBA was a great reaction by the team.

He has lost the plot big time. Can only hope this radio interview has been cancelled because he won't be here much longer.

To be fair Jonas has been the most consistent player this year (consistently not quite good enough) and has a very good work rate, so as a manager with over half the team out injured wouldn't you keep playing just so there's one less player who doesn't have to be rushed back to fitness.

I think the problem Pardew has had is that most the things that need fixing can't be done mid season. I must have seen 6 different one off corner strategies since January but that matters little if the ball in isn't good enough.

I have said for a while I think he is gone. Regardless of my thoughts on whether he deserves to go, it may well be for the best. I don't think he can win some fans back regardless what he does. We could get back to playing good football again and hang around outside the top boys, but it isn't going to be enough. Therefore you have to consider if it is worth backing him as an owner whether you think he is the right man or not. If the club is not united, it will not progress. This looks to be a case of him on his way. I know its only a radio show but it looks ominous to me.

Like ACS I will back him whoever is in charge come the first day of next season whether I think its the right decision or appointment. Just what we do as far as I'm concerned.

I do hope its longer term plan though. I'm not a big believer that owners should pander to what fans want. Many know very little about what makes a top football manager (for all they are passionate about their club) and you get such a wide range of opinions that you can't please everybody. Our fans whether we like or not have regularly called for the heads of our managers. Mainly because they have been poor selections of course but sometimes through a lack of patience too. The fans aren't going to change so we need strong leadership from board level. They have to make a selection and be willing to back their guy through good times or bad. Even the best have tough times. If we pick the right guy like we did when we asked Robson, they have to have more than Fat Fred had about him. He pulled the trigger because a minority of fans decided to kick up a fuss at slow start, buying into their worries. I just want this club to have some genuine stability or we will yo yo up and down the league forever and a day never reaching our full potential and having the odd flirt with relegation.

Everything is here to be like Everton, who after years of stability after seeing off the rocky periods, are now a top 8 club year on year. Can we match the big guns? Not with our current set up/budgets etc but we can have the odd flirt with rocking their boats.

Yeah, originally from the north-east though

I have no idea what that means but thanks!

agree with all of this, including thinking he's gone. Cancelling the talk-in is a big sign, unless it's something more harmless like he couldn't find a babysitter in time!

Poyet has been mentioned a few times as a desired target. However, this just flashed up on the top of the BBC site. No idea what's behind it.

Brighton and Hove Albion suspend manager Gus Poyet and his assistant, pending an inquiry
