Except if we are buying its because we have an injury or have no goals so every club will know we are desperate so out comes the LFC tax again.
Phil McNulty, BBC Sport Chief Football Writer"The reaction of Liverpool fans on Twitter to Dempsey perhaps going to Tottenham has been very angry. They now see the prospect of not bringing in anybody today. Why have they not got anybody? They've let Andy Carroll go, Charlie Adam's gone, they've got money in the bank. Yet no-one seems to be coming."
Good luck with the whole FSG / BR thing Can't believe villa outbid you on Dempsey and obviously you wouldn't budge on your offer hence he's gone to the spuds. Really stupid decision
True but I think we are being more careful with our money now and clubs know we aren't loaded any willing to pay over the odds for players so maybe we can get better deals.
Agree. Let's remember BR has only been here a few months and probably wants to see what he can get from his current squad before making anymore changes in Jan or the start of next season.
I'll be really disappointed in our leadership team if we've missed out on Dempsey because we refused to increase our offer by 1-2 million. He's a goalscorer, 15+ a season, who's used to the premiership and wouldn't cost more than 7mill max. Unreal. Especially since Carroll's been let go on a loan!
Trueish, but we still havent addressed the huge elephant in the room, that of a born goal scorer. That which has been missing since Torres left.
Oh don't get me wrong; I'm happy with the signings we did, that the youth are being used and I am happy that we aren't going to be screwed in the market anymore. Happier with the way we are setting up too. I'm just not going to listen to BR in press conferences any more ha ha. Maybe the list is longer but the rest of the players aren't available this year. Yes that's what I'm going to believe!
Just found this on the old twitter, sounds about right: Liverpool's owners and Ian Ayre's tactics have backfired. They were hopeful of signing Clint Dempsey on a permanent deal from Fulham and Daniel Sturridge on a loan deal from Chelsea. Interest in Theo Walcott ended two days ago. They contacted Chelsea regarding taking Sturridge on loan and continued discussions with the club, depending on Loic Remy's move to Chelsea. They allowed Andy Carroll to join West Ham on loan - for a worse deal than was previously offered to them, having rejected it - in the hope they could sign Sturridge today. However, Chelsea were unable to complete the deal for Remy earlier today which has meant they've rejected Sturridge moving late on in the window. Liverpool then went in for Clint Dempsey once again in the hope they could sign the American. However, the club's earlier attempts in the transfer window to sign Dempsey has meant Fulham are unwilling to sell to Liverpool for a lower price. As it stands, Liverpool will have to pay an excessive amount for Dempsey or be faced with having two main strikers at the club till January. Ian Ayre has taken a massive gamble by selling Andy Carroll hoping Chelsea could complete a deal for Remy in time which has backfired massively on the club.
Dempsey, the guy who scored more goals than Carroll, Downing, Henderson and Adam combined and doubled was available for 7million and wanted to join us. Not liverpool class? Bullshit. The guy's quality and scored most of those from midfield even! Absurd we only offered 4 million rather than the 7 because we wanted to suddenly play hardball having been screwed over last time. Now we just get screwed from the other angle. Really disappointed at the moment - one hour to go. We need goalscorers.
Well when we get to Christmas and still having trouble scoring, taking all the chances created, killing teams off and not being able to get back into a game because we didnt buy a 20+ man in this window will that be the time to panic? Especially if its costing us league positions. This should have been the first thing we looked at when the transfer window opened and not left it to the last day.
Who cares? Dempsey isn't good enough to be in our starting 11 and if the manager wanted him that badly he would have tried to sign him earlier, or bid more than 4 million.
I'm still baffled we loaned out Carroll before bringing someone in. When we then go to other clubs for their attacking players (Dempsey/Sturridge) they know that we are woefully short up-front and start asking for more than we are prepared to pay because they know we are desperate to bring a striker in. That therefore gives the club we are negotiating with the advantage. Appaling management. Quite confident I could have done a better job.
When all the English teams used to play 4-4-2 people would say you need 4 quality strikers. So surely if you only play with 1 you only need 2 quality strikers? Would've been nice to sign another striker but unless it was going to be a top striker who guarantee's goals and is going to start, whats the point? We've spent big again so don't know why people are criticising FSG
