That's true, no dispute. My argument was that just because other clubs won't accept less than they've been offered by other clubs just because you are Liverpool, does not mean they are playing hard ball. Do you think Dempsey is worth 1/6 of RVP? EDIT: I have no idea why I'm trying to persuade you that you want Dempsey.
To be honest you are probably a bit unlucky because for the past 5 seasons or so we've always overspent on players and under normal circumstances we'd have offered you £10mil for him by now already and you could probably get more from us. It's just now BR is being more conservative and for once we are trying to play hardball and get the best deal we possibly can. Also it's always hard when you say is he worth 1/6th of RVP. You could say suarez worth £13mil less than Carroll? Different players, different clubs. It's more what he's worth to the selling club than the buying one. Is RVP worth £24mil? Well if Arsenal miss out on Champions League because of his goals then you could say yes and possibly more. Is Dempsey worth more than £4mil? Well, without his goals you probably would have finished a few places lower which equates to a few million in prize money so in that instance yes he's probably worth about that to you.
Paul Dalglish‏@pauldalglish I would suspect a deal has already been done and they are waiting till the last minute to announce to add to the drama for the documentary. Would be funny if true
Do Spurs just see the players we are linked with and go and sign them? Dembele, Gylfi & Dempsey all in that midfield role and possibly Moutinho although that seems to have gone quiet now.
BBC SPORT: I told you earlier that Tottenham were sniffing around Clint Dempsey, and here is confirmation from BBC Sport "Clint Dempsey is at Spurs Lodge, the training ground. There is a very strong change he will be a Tottenham player come 11 o'clock. The fee has been agreed between the clubs and he is set to undergo a very quick medical."
I agree with all you say Baz but Brendan also has to answer his own statement: is he crazy for letting one of 3 strikers leave without having a replacement? It's not the money situation that concerns me, it's not the solid stance we are now taking budget wise; it's that our target list was soo short in an area the Manager thinks is lacking. He also said he'd like to do deals early. Why did we wait until the last minute if we only had two choices? Let's hope these brand new players all hit the ground running (Borini hasn't). And let's hope we have no further injuries because if we aren't prepared to overpay, the January transfer window will be a no go area.
You can get some bargains in January. Jelavic, D Cisse were both January transfers as was Suarez who at £20mil looks a bargain. This whole having to overpay in January thing is just a myth in my opinion. It's just when you buy players from England that you have to overpay buy you do that any time of the year not just January.
I agree, deals can be made in January. I'm just worried about September, October, November and December!!
