Genuine query - how do you go about reporting that you think you've bought dodgy brew beer?

I got 6 Coronas last night, didn't taste amazing but thought they were maybe not cold enough. Had 2 and felt pretty sleepy and a bit of headache. I have four left today, fancied 'em after a dull day at work and it being so hot and, just looking at the bottles, thought they didn't look quite right.

I watched Watchdog a while back and they were saying that if it's dodgy, often it has printing errors on it etc - so I look on the back, and lo and behold it's apparently brewed in Burton-upton-Trent. 'Upton'. I think I've been fiddled.

Got 'em from Nisa on the corner of Fairfax Ave (or it might have changed to Premier now) and, to be honest, I'm pissed off 'cos I want a nice cold beer without worry of ****ing my guts up. Anyone know owt?

Just call Trading Standards.

The dodgy Costcutter under my London flat flogged me some Polish Marlboro and a bottle of fake Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc. I reported them and they were raided, they seized a load of fake drinks and cigs, they got a fine and a warning and they get spot checks now, if they get caught again they get their license withdrawn.

They don't look right but, I've just bought the iScanner app and checked them, and it's telling me it's a registered Corona barcode. So I may be wrong.

They could be legit, Party. The thing is - if you find a great continental lager or beer, the moment it gets brewed here under license (by Whitbread/ Courage/ etc), you can pretty well forget it (in my experience). It'll likely be the same with Mexican beers, Indian or Japanese beers, as it just gets 'blanded out' - a bit like has happened with restaurants/takeaways, when great curries steadily become ****tier...

It is indeed Premier nowadays, although I've only ever bought Vodka from there.

Come to think of it, I had some dodgy Russian Standard (cheap option for pre-drinks) the other night and it seemed a little off. Never checked the labels though and the bottle is probably long gone.

Either way, I'm headed to Goodfellowship tonight so I might pop in to Premier/Nisa and have a little nosy.
 
that kind of makes it a fake version of a fake. Mexican beer distributed by an American/Candian brewing conglomerate (and maybe even brewed by them under license).

the non-fake stuff is crap anyway so you haven't missed anything.

Now I'm looking even more closely, the beer just looks a bit off-colour and flat too. The box is flimsy as well, the print on some of the bottles is a bit fuzzier than others. I really think I've been conned here.

I've sent an email to Trading Standards just now to explain, so hopefully they'll look into it. I have the evidence and my receipt. It definitely is the type of shop I reckon would do it, they have loads of booze in there and sell cheap stuff for the alcos that go into the cemetery to drink all day, so I wouldn't be surprised if some stuff is knock off.

You need to report it, not least of which because you have NO idea what the hell is in those bottles, and I'm talking nasty **** here. You might just feel a bit off after drinking some, someone else might not wake up again.
 
Oh meant to add, trading standards, and if it was me, a call to the local nick too, they might have a file on the place.
 
I'm convinced now it's knock off. The box is pathetic.

What makes me feel really dreadful is that some poor bloke in Goole has probably been blown into a thousand pieces at some point during the production of this ****.

Ring Trading Standards and if that dont work send them a Molotov Cocktail especially if its a Nisa corner shop. <whistle>

Becareful of fake booze as it can kill you if you drink enough of it.

The office is closed now so I've sent an email for them to pick up in the morning.

Don't say **** about dying to me! 'Kin 'ell! My kidneys seem to be working still, and my liver, so I think I'm ok. I'm pissed off though, I feel like they've taken a liberty with my wellbeing, my money and my trust. My mind is racing now, but I think the woman who served me was looking a bit sheepish as she bagged it up. And unfortunately at 28 years of age, I don't think that can be put down to worrying about me being old enough.

Damn you Nisa/Premier/Todays Extra - (a third shop name on the receipt).

There have been horror stories about knock-off booze. Stick to proper outlets for booze not corner shops unless of course you know them well.

Would you be in a position to claim if this dodgy hooch had anything to do with your sexual failings?
 
I used to work for an alcoholic drinks company, the Mrs still does. Fakes are rife, particularly in independent retail where they can buy from the back of a van and mix it with legitimate alcohol, so they have receipts. There was that Boston distillery that went pop as they were trying to distill Vodka into fake Smirnoff bottles.

It's also the **** they put in the bottles to replicate the flavour!
