I have a soft spot for Southampton. Used to work in Salisbury late 70s early 80s and knew a few Saints Fans. Went to a few games at the Dell and saw them in the old 1st Division with Matt Le Tissier (what a player). Then ended up living in a village where the local shop was run by Nick Holmes (Saints midfield player who played in the winning FA cup final (1976) and the losing FL cup final (1978)-great guy. I have no problem with the fans but this incident tarnishes the clubs name and image. Those responsible should hang their heads in shame.

I suspect the EFL might be being lily-livered as they were for the two Boro-Soton legs. They were obviously hoping for a Boro win which didn’t materialise. I wonder if the process won’t be completed before the 23rd. The EFL therefore let the final go ahead. If we win, immediate problem solved cleanly. If they win, then lose their appeal (which is pretty certain based on that legal opinion) we would then be promoted by default.
I wonder, in that scenario, whether they'd somehow remove a PL relegation spot saving Spurs/West Ham rather than promoting us having lost a final.

All this speculation is definitely putting a dampener on next weekend. Just watching the Cup final and spotting my seat and ordinarily I’d be getting really excited and “this time next week” etc.

Tell me I’m not weird in that a lot of the enjoyment is in the build up and not just the 90 minutes on the pitch?

I haven't got a clue what you're talking about mate, I only know what my bank balance looks like and it's skinnier than me. <laugh> <laugh>
Blimey Rerver. I thought your success with the ladies was due to your bank account and wallet bulging with crisp £50 notes.

If Southampton are pulled - all their fans tickets / Q codes should be cancelled so Boro fans can buy tickets- any refund for Southampton tickets should be paid by Southampton direct

Do Southampton fans have to accept a refund? Could they hold on to their tickets out of spite to deny Boro getting any? Would be an expensive form of revenge.

The more I think about it I think that’s what the EFL is doing. Southampton and ourselves will probably have both sold our ticket allocations by tomorrow night. That’s a hell of lot of refunding to do if Southampton get expelled before the final. It’s a logistical and administrative nightmare to move the game and then have Boro and us get tickets for a midweek game the following week

I think they will have some preliminary finding by Tuesday but announce the game goes ahead but a decision regarding Southampton’s fate takes place after the final ie treat it completely separately.

If we win on the day we are up. If we lose, part of the final decision regarding Southampton’s fate includes their exclusion from the prem.

Outcome
1) boro happier because Southampton punished for breaking the rules on spying
2) Southampton having admitted guilt have to accept the punishment.
3) Both sets of fans get a day at wembley with no costly rearrangements
4) efl get their big payday and protect the integrity of the competition

No because we’d have lost against a team labelled cheats. But the most likely outcome is Boro replacing Southampton.
That’s actually the least likely outcome imho .

I fundamentally disagree. No Governing body/Organisation can allow cheats to prosper, which Southampton will do if they win the playoff final. In my mind they MUST be disqualified from the playoffs. What happens next is then up to the EFL. Lets see if they have the balls?
I somewhat doubt it.
I don't like cheats in any sport or in life for that matter but lets be honest football is full of cheats. We see it in every game by every team every week. But there are levels of cheating, some are 'acceptable' like deliberate fouling, diving and time wasting, others it seems, like someone filming a training session, are far more serious? I'd question that.
Every team since the game was invented has tried to gain an advantage on their opponents. I've sat alongside people at City who were scouting for our next opponents, watching our every move, huge dossiers made, in open view of everyone.
It was a ****ty move by Southampton to have someone sneaking about in the woods filming a training session, its not in the spirit of the game, and it certainly isn't cricket, but neither is blatant diving or faking an injury to get a player sent off yet we see that every week at all levels.
For this incident to seriously delay or even threaten to cancel a Championship Play Off Final at Wembley is disgracefully poor handling by the EFL, even worse because we are the innocent party.
But lets all be honest, it's a storm in a teacup whipped up by Middlesboro because they lost. When the they could have had this tie wrapped up in the first 45 mins of the first leg if they could have taken just a couple of the multiple chances they made, so it's mainly sour grapes.
Southampton deserve a hefty fine because it was an underhanded move by them, but for me there are far more issues of cheating in football that could be dealt with then someone filming a training session on his phone.

Er, you wouldn't need false nose/glasses if spying was allowed Dennis.
Just because it would be allowed by the rules it wouldn’t mean clubs wouldn’t try and stop you.
The very best spies wouldn’t be known at all of course, but the second rate ones would get their faces known so would need glasses/fake nose combos so they could sneak in looking like delivery people or trialists.
Same would apply for hats, and fake beards.

I think you're probably right here. Sort of seems like it was a funny story that wasn't that serious at first but it's grown legs and been taken more and more seriously to the point that it's now almost taboo to question whether it's really that big a deal. But as you say, the sporting advantage here is relatively minor compared to diving for a penalty.

how are sales going? wife said she saw on instagram city tickets are sold out but now can't find it. with the tickets being released in stages i assumed bs.
