The problem was the PB and PD were joined at the hip.

Alex Ferguson lost £14million in one season alone on the buy and sale of Juan Sebastian Veron. That's more than Brown wasted.

In fairness Stoke did a similar thing, they signed about 50 players the summer we both went up and most of them are unheard of now. The only difference was that they had an owner who genuinely was rich unlike ours. Meaning they could replace the crap signings with better ones and we had to make do with the likes of Gardner, Ghilas, etc.

The damage was done before we sold Turner, he had to be sold to pay that month's wages, it was the ridiculous signings we'd made over the course of 2009 up until then that were the problem.

Sorry BCC, but's a terrible example.

If you're going to pick a club to compare the quality of signings with, I'd suggest Man United probably isn't going to help your case much. <laugh>

yes. but what Norwich and Swansea have done this season is what Hull City should have done. City Paid way way over the top for Peter Halmosi as an example. Yes Stoke have a rich owner but they moved there squad on in the correct way.
But whats done is done and now history. Long term it was for the best as i hate to think what state the club would be in now if we had survived the 2nd PL season by some fluke. Now debt has gone. New owners, better management and playing squad. Sometimes you have to go back to move forwards. Now City are on a roll again.

My point was that PB should not be blamed for the financial mess, Pulis made the exact same mistakes by signing the likes of Tonge, Soares, Kitson, Faye, Arismendi, etc. but luckily for him he had an owner who could just replace them, they've got it right eventually by buying proven players like Crouch. With that in mind is he any better than PB?

Also, PB didn't have a stupid cap.

Why is it? Alex Ferguson has said on MANY occasions that if you get 50% of your signings to be a success you're doing ok. I'd wager he has spunked more up the wall than most, just that he has enough financial backing to rectify the bad ones by spending even more.

The Pulis signings of Messrs Crouch and co this season are on the back of the UEFA Europa League Cash Cow. But i still think that PB should have bought top end championship players. Hunt was one of his better buys but he should also have gone for Doyle prior to Mad Mick getting him. That would have been far more cost effective. When you add up the money(fees-wages etc) for the likes of Halmosi - McShane - Hess'link - Altidore - Zaki - Mendy - Cousin alone that is truely awful. I take your point on Stokes model but Brown could have done the same if he had used a different path.

Also, Brown did not have a stupid cap, correct. But chose to sing and wear that deaf aid. lol

The point is that Phil Brown was awful after the First PL season. But we have moved on now. Thank goodness.

I'm aware of SAF's comments, I'm equally aware that far more than 50% of his signings have been successful and far less than 50% of Brownies were.

I've no issue with people defending Brownies record, particularly during the first half of his tenure, but to suggest that overall his signings were good is re-writing history. We paid millions for players we never played, we paid millions in wages to players not worth a quarter of what they were being paid(I accept that the wages were primarily Duffen's **** up, but you'd expect someone to say to Brownie 'are you sure Sonko's worth £28k a week and a loan fee?'), almost everyone we signed was a reject or a journeyman, we picked up almost nothing in the way of upcoming talent, despite somehow managing to run up a £40m wage bill. It was farcical.

I would love to see Horton back. His experience could only help the club at any level, but it should only be considered if its Nicks idea.
Things seem to be well balanced at the moment and the most important thing is that nothing is done to upset that.

Personally, don't want to see Horton back - he's an arrogant so and so. NB can do much better than him.

Don't take my word for it. See attached link.
Do you really think PB wanted to sell Turner? Bartlet was desperate as the Bank demanded money in his account.
