I have been thinking, which is probably mistake number 1 in my case. I have, I think, fallen into a trap of thinking Ballard starts next season. Largely based on his 3 play off games. Those were a bit unique in that we knew we needed someone to head it 20 od times a game away from danger. How many prem teams will play that way against us?

I think we might well need two new CBs on reflection. I look at premier league teams and they are rapid in the final 3rd, either in terms of pace, or in terms of thought. We will need real pace in our back line, along reading the game and ability to play. We dont really have that do we? Is Cirkin the quickest? I think we need two quick, mobile centre backs that can play on the deck. Those wont be cheap. But may well be the most important pieces of the jigsaw we are missing right now? I fear we become too easy to play through without real pace at CB. A Van De Ven type would be grand...
I think Ballard has earned an opportunity but I honestly would see him O’Nien and Alese as third, fourth and fifth choice with us needing to bring in two capable of immediate first team duty. I also think Seelt and Hjelde have potential so wouldn’t really want to sell yet but perhaps loan them out. Competition needed at RB and LB too.

One big advantage we have when trying to attract next level players (for us…£20m or so) is they will almost certainly get plenty of games.

Take Le Fee for example. How many teams would he be a certain starter for in the Premier League apart from us.
The top teams have mega expensive players all over.
The middle lot have squads full of top players.
The few down with us like Burnley and perhaps Leeds already have plenty of ELFee quality players.

Players come to clubs to play, we can offer that.
We might not be able to compete wages wise but if it’s money driving the player he’s probably the wrong one for us anyway.
We have about 5 or maybe 6 starting positions up for grabs. The likes of Neil, Roberts, Rigg, O’Nien and Cirkin would likely be on the bench.
