Some people won't see any positives regardless of who we get. I have a good feeling about this guy after doing some research
Sporsy went to Lens, Goes to sign a winger. Once he got himself out there, Thought “no, I’ll take the ginger”.
Glad the manager is in place before the end of May, I thought it would be a June thing to be honest. However, arguably the biggest part of this summer - and still the biggest part - is trying to rectify some of the dogshit recruitment and moving quickly to rebuild our XI and the wider squad. Interested to see that get going, Spors is clearly looking to move quickly given the pace of his other decisions, so let's hope to see more of that in the weeks ahead
I also look at it from this point of view, Leicester still have RVN, will they stick or twist? Will they get a points deduction? All this is still to be decided. Will McKenna stay at Ipswich? Meanwhile, Spors has sorted out his back room staff, and is about to appoint a manager who he believes can take the club forward and build towards the future. We didn’t appoint RM until mid June last time relegated, so it does appear that FINALLY, the club appear to know what they are doing, and where they want to go?
As I said I'm cautiously optimistic. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he flopped as he'll never have faced pressure like he will and almost immediately so. I do think it's a bigger risk than is necessary and SR will have to live or die by that decision so we'll have to see where we are in December. Mainly I'm just looking forward to watching us again. We've been absolutely dreadful to watch probably since Ralph's first 18 months so it'd be nice to actually play some entertaining football again. We should be able to build a squad to do so too.
I don't think it is the right call, but it looks like he will be our new manager so we can do nothing else but get behind him. All aboard!
I’ve been very much in the Rohl camp since January, but reading/listening to what football experts have to say, including the interviews with Still himself I’m feeling pretty optimistic about this appointment. Sounds very grounded and genuine and although he is naturally quite shy, hasn’t been afraid to be honest with players and fans in the past, adapt to each task and make the difficult yet correct decisions in every job he’s had. He’s also worked extremely hard to make it in the game - arguably a lot harder than any ex pro could ever imagine as he’s had no industry links / ties to anyone in the game and that is hugely admirable! Fingers crossed he hits the ground running.. get the feeling he won’t take sh*t from the current crop too and anyone who doesn’t want to graft it for him will be gone straight away which is exactly what we need!
Another good point as to needing Championship experience. The year we got promoted the managers were Maresca, McKenna both first year as Championship managers, and of course, RM.
Interesting to hear TSP say he's adaptable but likes to get the ball wide and cross it. Tall Paul to tear up the Championship next season?
