The major problem with knowing a foreign language is that you increase the amount of **** you have to listen to. 90% of whatever anyone says, including me, isn't worth listening to. Few things are better than being in a country where you don't understand a thing and not having to listen to anything said or written and answering any question or request with an apologetic shrug and ppl just letting you get on with what you want - ultimate peace.

Conventional knowledge tells us that learning other languages opens us up to new opinions and wisdom, but in reality, it just opens us up to hearing more adults tell us they're tired, being obliged to attend pointless meetings and to hear about various ailments.
It’s off at a bit of a tangent, but this reminds me of the trend a few years ago for alternatively sub titled bits of the scene from ‘Downfall’ with Hitler and his generals. Some of them were genuinely funny, but if you understood what they were actually saying rather than just reading the made-up translation it was really distracting.

Odd that, there was a question on 'The Chase' tonight about Cool Hand Luke....Which actor won an Oscar for best supporting actor for his part in Cool Hand Luke?
