Yeah indeed. I just don’t believe for a second that Nixon knows that we’d sell for the right price - or what they price may be. His contacts are heavily NW based. Fairly sure that’s why he chattered away a bit when Mowbray and Neil were in charge, given their history. I’d be confident he gets absolutely nothing from SAFC these days though - and any story he has is agent chatter from the other end of any negotiation. It’s why all his stories are about our players leaving.
Aye it's such a cop out saying they'll sell at the right price. Every team would sell a player at a certain price

Young is not for sale and it would take a ridiculous offer for us to sell him

Sell at the right price applies to everyone. Think £10 million would be a good price for Young, if Patterson is indicating behind the scenes that he is committed to staying for the next 2-3 years and beyond. We could spend the money on a striker for this season.

His price is inflated because he is English and City struggle to fill their quotas for Europe with their squad. Presumably he would replace Carson as their 3rd choice goalie.

Think Young would be mad to go there mind, but you never know.

It is a tricky one for a young player, potentially triple your wages or more for 4 years, but you may ruin your career

Think it would be terrible business to sell Young and keep Patterson.

Patterson has somewhat plateaued and a move might be in everyone's best interests.

Shipping Young out at this point could be a huge opportunity missed.

I find it amusing that some lads on here don’t seem to realise who runs Sunderland now, they say who stays and who goes, nobody else. Certainly not some toss pot journalist or whatever he is.

Exactly.

Every player does indeed have a price. That applies to all but about 5 players in the world.

We will sell when the club ownership and the player are aligned and in agreement.

I fancy Young might do what Picky would have done without relegation, and spent many years here as number 1.

Picky went out of necessity, his loyalty to Everton is a marker to that.

Also these young players have had the opportunity to go before they signed Pro deals with us (young Rigg and Watson). They all turned down those offers as they all believed we were the best place for them to develop and have the best career possible. Everything that's happened at the club the last few years has justified those decisions, so they aren't leaving now

Be mad for any young player to want out of Sunderland at the moment. Such a clear pathway to not only minutes but a proper shot at staking and important place in the team/squad.

Anyone who wants to leave doesn't have their head screwed on.

100%. You will get games here, not might, you will.

You will get used to playing in front of a big crowd, and under pressure.

You will get a rough ride from segments of the fans and learn to handle that, you will get adoration from segments and grow through both.

I know it’s our club and we biased, but the results speak. Clubs a melting pot for growth and we have evidence up and down the leagues of the success. Players have captained England, players are right through the leagues. You’ll get out what you put in and have here.

The work done with the Academy under the current ownership group is utterly staggering and should make every single one of us proud.

Sky etc are only helping us with the relentless referral to the age of the squad.

Where else are players hitting 50, close to 100 games in their teens, in front of 40k and sell out away allocations?

With it looking like Regis is ‘our one’ and stability for the first time in decades, players here, and the club as a whole, can soar.

I could handle being the Ajax of England. It’s not implausible.

Spurs have signed a Czech U21 keeper for 12.5m today. We're 'rumoured' to be interested in Patto.

I think Patton goes Liverpool.

Alison is already replaced for next season by the brilliant Mamardashvilli, Kelleher will go somewhere as a number 1, he deserves that.

They need a number 2 and they will want English as they are low on quota.

Any young player would be mental to look elsewhere currently. The pathways to the senior team are there for all to see.
Agree, but on the same hand, the we want the best players possible and the best players need the mentality that they are the best and can make the step up.

We need to let them go when its right, and then target the same types of players at 22 / 23 who did make a move but it didn't go to plan

I believe Liverpool could get better than Patterson, for cheaper too.

We did right by Jack Clarke and I'm sure we will for others when the bid and timing is right.

It’s agents. They get paid for feeding him ****. I know this for a fact

I think it would need to be incentives based, there are so few players of his potential around, similar to Rigg and Jobe (we seem to be hoarding them), that although we need a big fee upfront, we need to be paid their actual value when their potential is realised, this can be done with incentives. For example:

£10m upfront
20% sell-on
upto £25m in additional incentives associated with signing new contracts, trophies, games played and general longevity.
