Money doesn't matter until June, whether we bring in players tomorrow or on Jan 30 is irrelevant.

Completely agree, that said after Saturday we've two weeks until the next league game which may be influencing some behind the scenes decisions. That said we need some quality through the door fast so they can settle in and contribute strongly in two weeks time, otherwise I fear the pressure of a relegation scrap is going to ramp up.

Agreed, I wasn't actually bringing it up because I believed him but like you find it strange how obsessed he's become with it. I wonder if it's a bit of fluff from the club to justify/excuse why deals are taking longer than expected to get tied up.

I don't know why Baz has become so obsessed with registration of players in the 25-man squad. I always thought it was much more flexible than he keeps making out, along the lines of how other replies on here have said it works. I'm pretty sure we can sign a player whenever we want, and it's just a question of juggling the 25-man squad after the window closes. I'm pretty sure we juggled a similar situation two years ago when we also had a big squad and there wasn't this fuss about it. I think we actually left some players out of the 25 that year.

According to the EFL, you can have 25 players registered to play. If a player is U21 at the start of a season, they don't have to be registered UNLESS they're a loan player, in which case they do even if they're under the age of 21. Being under 21 classes anybody who was born after January 1st 2004, which as it stands is nobody that isn't on loan. We need eight home grown players (spent three years at any English or Welsh club before they turned 21). We also need one club developed player in the registration rules, which is a player that's spent at least one year in our U18s, which presumably is why they've hung onto Matty Jacob (guessing they planned for Cartwright to go out on loan as he's 22 and would need to be registered, but then got injured and we signed Rushworth anyway). Vaughan and TSF joined in the U21s I believe, so they wouldn't count.

So we basically need to deregister the injured/banned players to free up three spaces, shipping out Longman, Bedia, Mehlem, Rushworth and Burns during this window would then give us eight free spaces, which tracks with the amount of signings Acun said we'd make. If Vaughan went out, that would also free up a space. I have no idea what's happening with Sinik; he has a one year option on his contract and presumably Selles wants to see if he can be of any use before making a decision as even if we're letting him go for free in the Summer, if he can contribute it's one less winger to have to worry about.

I've just checked the list submitted to the EFL, because I forgot about Jarvis and Smith. They were both registered in the first team squad (unless Baz has ****ed this up, surely not), while Vaughan and Kamara were listed as U21s. I'm not sure what's going on because Kamara was born on July 21st 2003, Simons is older being born on February 20th, unless they're counting the start of the following season as where they start counting from, that's the only reason I can think it would count.

I really hope we don't chuck the kids in against Doncaster, it's a winnable game in a season where wins have been few and far between. They've been in pretty average form too, so it would be good to see a few first team players in there. It would be a good game to bed in a few new signings, too.

As I’ve theorised it could be the club is a bit wary of bringing in some and being unable to balance the books by January end. As much as it’s being compliant by June time in reality you have to do it in window so to speak

Unfortunately I suspect that's what we will do. Don't think Selles will see the FAC as anything other than a distraction - albeit a welcome one where he can rest the first teamers and get some training session time with them. I also suspect any new signings we make might get cameo appearances in the cup game. But I reckon those on the bench the other night will be starters v Donny.

Understandable but you can do things such as have Longman ready to move to Scotland once we have the player incoming, much as Norwich did to us with Kamara. We shouldn't need to wait for Longman or Mehlem to go and let that hold up deals.

A couple of queries on that, which you know far more than me, so I probably know the answer;
  • Is he referring to Acun being still on probation so EFL are insisting outgoings are done first?
  • Didn’t the football financial expert, who’s name I’ve forgotten say we have no issue re FFP and (having sold Greaves and Philo) we have loads of headroom for this window and next? I may have misheard and he was saying this was for summer and next winter windows.

You're bragging as if you were proven right. He's won 2 games already. Our form under Selles is mid table. We're in the relegation zone purely because our results before him were disastrous.

Catching up, so maybe it's been addressed later, but this is correct. We've won 2 and we're showing some fight across a tough run of fixtures.

Under Walter we had a string of matches where many of the opponents were in the bottom 8, and we couldn't beat one of them. We had all the possession, but they scrapped and defended every cross we pumped aimlessly into their box, then often broke away and gave us a sucker punch.

Walter wasn’t blameless by any stretch but a lot of people confidently said this squad is good enough to finish mid-table under a better coach and it was absurd at the time and it’s absurd now. Myself and others said the squad was nowhere near good enough months ago but others were convinced a change in coach would see us climb the table as we’re not a poor squad, just mismanaged.

Again with a fully fit outfit and Selles from the start I’m confident we’d be fine. Losing the two wingers and Alzate/Hughes injuries have been huge problems.

It's players born after 1st Jan 2003, so Vaughan, Kamara, Simons, Burstow and Hughes all count as U21.

He needs to be playing with another striker, he’s a proper good larker but he’s absolutely wasted tiring himself running around chasing and challenging for hopeless lost causes when he’d about as fast as a tortoise and has the upper body strength of an egg. He needs to be playing in a free role where he can be dropping off, finding space and picking up the ball more often, which he can’t do when he’s leading the line in his own.
He started his career as a attacking midfielder.
