People in Belfast harboured IRA men, can you imagine the **** storm if we had bombed the **** out of Belfast?
Civilised countries just don't do that ****.
I've never served so I can't say but to my naive eyes I see the logistics of the two areas completely different, that the British and Israeli troops would have to cope with. Happy to accept being wrong, but the middle east just seems a fire pit to me occupied by raving lunatics. Not suggesting Ireland didn;t have it's lunatics obviously.
But British troops did open fire on and kill civilians, unless I'm remembering my history wrong?
Are you telling me that the Israili army were/are incapable of going into Gaza and sealing the tunnels then rooting out the hamas fighters left in the city?
This is/was a sealed city which is very hard to escape from when locked down so in effect the hamas fighters were locked in

They did, though never on anything like the scale Israel is perpetrating now. Bloody Sunday caused the government problems for decades, and is regarded as one of the most shameful episodes in the history of the British armed forces.
Well, one slightly important contextual difference is that whereas the IRA only sought Westminster's political withdrawal from Ireland, Hamas and Hezbollah want Israel to cease to exist entirely.
A fairer comparison would have been had the IRA sought the total destruction of all of Great Britain, what would the armed forces' response have been if that was the enemy's objective?
'seeking' ... Hamas seeking the destruction of Israel with some Rockets, RPGs and AK47s ... when were they punished ?No, it happened and squaddies were punished for it.
sure did but best not to dig into that sort of thing just as John Stalker. Were they, I thought they were struggling to bring justice for those that required it in Ireland, either way they still killed civilians. Plus I'm sure the British Government or it's agencies arranged hits as well. The British were certainly no innocent in some of the events that happened. Plus it was a land we had forced our way onto without the agreement of half of the Irish people, ie we were not welcome.
Bloody Sunday(s) if you go back far enough - 1920 British troops (Black & Tans) opened fire on crowd at Croke Park, Dublin, watching Gaelic football - 1972 Belfast and the Paras - both unprovoked in terms of weapons etc - similar deaths around 15 - kids in both - lots more injured in the first incident ....
As you say - nothing like the scale of women and kids in Gaza, which can never be justified in terms of some mathematical equation ...
actually in the case of bloody Sunday the first gunfire came from a 2 man "Official" IRA sniper team and the first fatal casualty was shot by members of Royal Green jackets however the murders were committed by Paras .Bloody Sunday(s) if you go back far enough - 1920 British troops (Black & Tans) opened fire on crowd at Croke Park, Dublin, watching Gaelic football - 1972 Belfast and the Paras - both unprovoked in terms of weapons etc - similar deaths around 15 - kids in both - lots more injured in the first incident ....
