Just for fun I'm going to ask a version of this question after every game ...

... which Boro players would you take for our starting 11?
Good question and a good discussion to be had after every game I think.

I'm not a fan of their 'Keeper and think their defence is poor so none of them.

Hackney and Morris are usually pretty good, thought Morris was still decent yesterday but he plays a similar role to Rigg and i'd rather Rigg. Hackney was horrific yesterday and think he's, for me, slightly worse than Neil so wouldn't take either of them. Would take both for the squad though.

The wingers they started i'm not a fan of, think we have the better players there. However I do like Ben Doak who they brought on on the right.

Really enjoy Mayendas performances but Latte Lath and Conway are better players, would they suit the system and do the defensive work Mayenda does though? Perhaps not.

So in conclusion i'd take Ben Doak and one of their strikers.

Just witnessed that centre back totally telegraphing their tactics in the very first minute. I bet Carrick was pulling his hair out <laugh>

One of the funniest things I've seen at the SOL ...

... since Patterson started wasting time after some team had wasted endless minutes at one nil up.

Then we went ahead right at the end <laugh>

So get promoted buy 2/3 average premiership players on big salaries, upset the rest of the squad get relegated after being walloped every game, half the squad leaves after being thoroughly pissed off, sounds like a cracking idea mate. I would prefer to wait and come up with a side like we and the mags had and I’m afraid that’s not this season.<ok>

I'm jumping half way through the conversation so apologies if I got hold of the wrong end of the stick

But if we got promoted this season, do you think kld and speakman are going to disregard everything they're trying to build, get some average players in for ridiculous wages? I don't think so.

They'll be a plan in place, with the type of players we need, and a fee and wage structure framework.

Plus, give our players another 30 games experience this season and I'd back quite a few of them to do well in the premier league. We might not survive, but we wouldn't be getting battered every game imo

Yeah exactly this. KLD and Speakman aren't suddenly going to sign plodders, I don't think it's in the clubs DNA anymore. The days of journeymen and final paydays are done. If we were to be promoted I'd imagine our window would be something along the lines of fairly big fees on some young stars, which we would be able to attract being a PL club, along with some PL mainstays on frees/low fees. Look at Brighton for example, Milner signing on a free while they also spend big on young talent. Its the correct way to do it and is basically what our strategy has been anyway just on a lower scale.

I was living in the New Forest and jumped on a Southampton coach, to the SOL, for their game.

The coach stopped at Wetherby service where there were two Boro coaches. The Smogs came over and were absolutely frothing at the mouth pleading with Southampton to beat us, which they did 1-0 ...

... I couldn't believe the absolute hatred, they didn't want to talk about anything but Sunderland.

Absolutely vile specimens, every one of them.

Had a good couple of first touches but didn’t do much going forward. I really liked his enthusiasm in defence tho.

I was impressed with how he got stuck in at the back, looked like he knew what he was doing. Put challenges in without giving fouls away.

Can't make any comments on his attacking qualities as yet but he looks like a team player.

I suppose we simultaneously telegraphed our tactics, the difference was ours were good and theirs weren't.

It was a bizarre start to the game. I felt it was credit to our lads that they stuck to the plan to stand off and contain, when their instincts must have been to get stuck into them from kickoff.

Just realised we’ve played 4 of the current bottom 5 in the league. Hopefully means very little. Watford should be a decent test next week

Update. My 88 year old fella brandished his Sunday paper at me as I walked in. Shouted look, they are say Rigg will move to big clubs. Why cant they just stay in their club. I spent 5 mins calming him down and saying he loves us like old players used to. Then he saw the goal, smiled a massive grin which made my week, and said he wont stay with us, too good. Trevor Ford left us, they all bloody do. Owld sod he is, my Dad. But Trevor is his favourote all time, so I am so proud he thinks in that way. Hope I can keep showing him the emerhence of Rigg, what a star he is.

Really ****ing enjoy these updates. Sounds like a proper character your old man.

"his right legs wraps around the player"

No it doesn't, I've just watched it again and you couldn't be more wrong.

It's far from reckless, he knew exactly what he was doing.

Lath bottles it, puts the brakes on, that's what makes it look worse than it is.

There's a debate because there's just a chance that you may be wrong and other people disagree.

Your word isn't definitive mate <laugh>
I have watched it 3 or 4 times and still believe yellow was the correct decision, I guess its a game of opinions, his tackle was mis-timed but not high or out of control.
