It can defo be read two different ways like

Ballard signed a new deal Rigg was handed his first professional contract and signed for 2 years. I for one would improve his deal and offer a 4 or 5 year deal that secures us from losing out financially on what looks like a great prospect whilst also rewarding him with a great deal for the way he has started his professional career.
For me making sure that performances of our best players are rewarded is as important as new players and as a fan base we should not lose sight of that
I know DB has just signed a new deal but by January we may well be able to improve on that, which if needed gives us negotiating strength further down the line.

Think rigg could only be offered a 3 year deal with it being his first pro contract, next year when he's 18 they can then improve it or offer him a better/longer one
