He stated that Birmingham being closer was a factor but a few people have said he was here for photos before being announced so he must have been prepared to come on loan in absence of closer opportunities and signing permanently if that was possible is different to a temporary move. Not sure we’d go back though- doesn’t scream “ want to play for Sunderland” does it?

SM Caen. Alexandre Mendy back in training this Tuesday afternoon Alexandre Mendy, who had not appeared on the Venoix pitch for almost a month, took part in the collective session this Tuesday afternoon.

The top scorer in Ligue 2 last season (22 goals) had expressed the wish to leave Normandy and seemed close to a departure for Sunderland (English D2). The arrival of Kylian Mbappé as majority shareholder has, if not changed the situation, reshuffled the cards.

Eager to join Sunderland (English D2), he seemed close to leaving before Kylian Mbappé became the majority shareholder of SM Caen. Did the French team striker and his close friends manage to make him change his mind or simply delay a departure that seemed inevitable?

Did they simply remind him of his obligations? Questions that should not remain unanswered for long. Stade Malherbe begins its Ligue 2 season on Saturday (2:30 p.m.) against Paris FC. In the absence of Norman Bassette and before the return of Alexandre Mendy, Mickaël Le Bihan was the only central striker available to Nicolas Seube.

The longer it continues the less value in the deal for us. Clubs will know we are getting desperate now and will be more willing to hold out until the last minute of the window to force our hand. Can’t see this regime doing a Donald and throwing increased bids to make it happen, so hopefully we’ve got other options lined up too.

It'll be a loan and that's it, imo.
