15 and 20 million plus add ons. It’s a lot more than they were worth last year. Makes Burrows like cheap.
Also in that HDM article, Baz says this about the style of play: "No longer does he want his midfielders to drop deep and collect the ball off the goalkeeper or central defenders, he wants his midfielders to be powerful, dynamic and have the belief to carry the ball high up the pitch into attacking areas, his defenders to bring the ball past the halfway line." I'm looking forward to seeing this style of play to make sense of it. I just don't get how this actually works in practice. The opposition aren't going to allow the defenders to walk as far as they want up the pitch, surely that's why almost every team has midfielders dropping deep to help outnumber the press and get the ball out. Baffled by this style based on how it's explained by Baz.
There are hundreds of players released by clubs only to go and flourish in a higher or 'bigger' club. I wouldn't read too much into it. Opinions on kids vary from academy to academy and if we have seen something to bring him in then so be it. He may be a leader that the academy coach would like to marshall his talented players around. Academy kids are used and abused for all sorts of reasons.
I could stomach £35 million with a whopping sell on and add ons... ie another £5 million each if they stay up etc...
As a long term critic of his im actually excited to see what Slater can do when he’s allowed to just do what he’s good at and not forced to try do things he isn’t
Just read on Team Talk, that JP has been mentioned at Manure... (likely a crap site but the more snippets like this has to be good...?)
If theyre gonna be sold We need them sold asap Also i wonder if we will get a sold player tax Aka Have to pay more due to clubs knowing we have a bigger kitty
I've watched way too much Walter's games to get an idea of what to expect. Rather than use Seri or another midfielder dropping deeper to receive the ball from the keeper what Walter likes to do is bring his GK into a psuedo-CB position when holding the ball. The respective CB the keeper replaces will almost become a full back and the full backs themselves will push on higher to create a second line with the midfielders. This pushes the first line further up as well. Now like you say teams will press this as you would expect. The reason he wants midfielders to stay in a higher line and not come deep to receive is two fold. 1 is he likes to use them as anchors in play. Typically Hamburg would have a CB passing to the full back and making a run. The full back would pass to the midfielder would would then pass to the running CB. The other is on the half turn or in half spaces when they get more direct. This is the best video I could find in short form immediately but it highlights a lot
That jumped out for me too. I've often got frustrated with how we play a back four, yet still have a CM drop deep alongside them to take the ball deep, often even still in our own third. That means that when we are looking to build something we are a) doing it from deep, and b) have 6 players behind the ball (keeper, back 4 and a CM), meaning there's only 5 players to play a forward pass to. This lessened the more Allsop became a quasi-sweeper, but still happened far too much, and as we know was all typically done at such a slow pace. So, I loved reading that this is how he wants us to play. I've noticed some teams in the Euros doing similar-ish too, and trying to get the ball forward quickly. I'm really looking forward to seeing this ..... tempered with the continuing concern that we need to bring so many new players in, and players that fit this style of play.
This is why clubs don’t announce a true figure, so they can say “We got around £X but we only get £X every 6months or after X appearances”
Can’t imagine anything going wrong with a keeper in that position in the Championship… Entertaining though
There will be moments for sure. Its high risk high reward. Best hope at the next Q&A he doesn't have a keeper agenda again
Me too he seems to thrive when he’s got space to move around in. I reckon Simons has a good chance of being a big player too
Take 40m with add ons. Needs sorting though we need to start bringing players in and giving them a decent pre- season. We currently don’t have any strikers
Whatever Ipswich have paid Chelsea for Hutchinson is what we should be setting as the starting price for Jaden. Jaden had a better season than Hutchinson in terms of assists and goals from less games. Hutchinson 10 assists 5 goals from 44 games Jaden 12 assists 6 goals from 32 games
Given Jaden’s better output from less games in a more defensive outfit, starting price should be £20m minimum.
We might never know GLP... lets hope that clubs start to get serious (Spurs and others) if people think a deal with Ipswich might be close. I just cannot get his agent having Ipswich as anything other than a fall back...
