I understand both sides of the argument re: Jobe Personally if we got a bid in excess of £20m which also included a sell on, I'd sell now, and use most of that cash on a striker.
News is starting to ramp up now, before it eventually slows down during the euros. Wouldn't be surprised if we came out with a bang with a new head coach and a couple of decent freebies soon. Notice it said we're aiming for promotion and knocking back anything under 20 mill. Once we get our man and things settle down we could be in for a decent season.
Coventry paid £7.7M for Haji Wright, that now looks a bargain. Hopefully we’ve got someone similar in mind. Cracking player.
Another thing to add to the equation. If we get 20M for Jobe, would we/could we hang on to Clarke? Also, if Spurs are sniffing, could we ask for Parrott to be part of the deal? They get their man, we get a striker.
No, Clarke wants a contract beyond our wage structure according to his agent. I guess, we could try convince him to stick around for a year and get us promoted but his days here look numbered otherwise.
20M for Jobe and 20M for Clarke would give us a hell of war chest and that's not counting the possible sale of Patto, Matete, Embleton and a few others. Should be able to get a CB, DM, LW AND 2 Strikers as well as a few young prospects for that.
The stark reality about this coming season, regardless of who becomes the Manager/Head Coach, is the goals 'FOR' that we need to address more than anything else. We have a supposed 'MODEL' which includes a group of specialists who are looking/scouting for young/under the radar, talent. These specialists have failed badly last season to identify, or attract a decent CF. Yes, we did sign young CF's but these players did not produce the goods, for what ever reasons. We all are aware of thiis, it's perfectly obvious right? Now let's look at the stats from last season (I Iove stats me) - * We didn't make the play-off's for only one reason. * We finished in the bottom half for only one reason. Our goals conceded were'nt great, but not that bad in comparrison with some top half teams. We had a better defence than attack, didn't we? We have great creativity, but no end product in the final third. Which is why you see this :- We conceeded less goals than two promoted teams - Ipswich and Southampton. And, on average, we were 30 goals short of those who finished in the Play-off's. 30 GOALS !!! 17 teams scored more than us. The current defence is okay - don't lose our creativity - Invest on at least two high profile CF's... Easier said than done though
On my hols at minute just been on a boat trip were sat with a Palace family and their understanding is that Palace are comfortable paying £20million and it’s what they expect to be paying. Feel in 2 years lad be worth a lot more (look at Wharton rocket value) but that’s a big kitty for right now.
i know i am just repeating myself again ... but we need a solid and experienced CDM, i don't think neil or ekwah will fit the bill and they are both better further forward (they are both good players and can do the job when required, i just feel a 'battle hardened and weather beaten' man would be better) we also need a striker with at least a decent record, if we keep the midfield pretty much the same a lad with the nous will score plenty...rusyn is a good back up and hemir needs games out of the limelight as he has shown some very good play at winning the ball but really needs to find his feet in front of goal. other than that i guess we need to see who is sold first.
