Honestly mate I’ll die on this hill and people won’t agree because they love the young lads we have from last season so no blame is ever left at their door but they’re just not good at providing for a striker. It all starts with the midfield though, attack slowly and let teams get behind the ball then you’re a situation where you’ve playing against what’s essentially a back 8 and your striker is against 2 CB’s. Good teams create chances for strikers, look at Haaland and all that’s being said about him currently. His all round play is dogshit we’ve said this for months but he’s lethal in front of goal and when the team around him create 5+ chances a game he’s going to score. When he’s not scoring it highlights how poor the other parts of his game are because he offers next to nothing.
That's a bit extreme imo ... ... I can't think of any player who hasn't been criticised at some point this season. Even Clarke has taken stick for holding onto the ball too long, shooting from impossibly narrow angles and being predictable. A good manager would be able to get this squad playing well more consistently imo.
There's a young forward for Spurs who I thought done brilliant when we played them earlier in the season. He's a foreign lad, he's the type we could do with. The young lad for Swindon under 18's as well, modern striker.
Fair enough mate. I cannot agree. Strikers are a fundamental part of the chance creation process. Their movement, or their hold up play, or their ability to turn a defender. They have to be able to contribute before the ball comes to them in a goal scoring position. I have yet to see our strikers demonstrate they have the ability to do this well enough, or with regularity. Hemir is, for me, the prime example of a lad who probably found youth team football easy and has yet to realiss he is going to have to learn and develop his game to play at a higher level. It really is up to him and the coaches to put in the work because when he is on the pitch I just dont see enough that warrants his place. Burstow in the same bracket. Compare them two to Gelhardt or Broadhead. Both were miles ahead in terms of helping with the chance creation process. I am sure either would have been trusted as a result this season.
You're both right. We have been poor at creating chances for our strikers, partly to do with our wingers (Clarke at least) having so much success looking for the shot rather than the cross/pass. That said, it is undeniable that Burstow and Hemir in particular have been awfully static and as a result have hardly inspired our midfielders/wingers to look for them. It's a bit of both. Burstow will leave in the summer, Hemir will likely spend a season on loan somewhere getting better and we will try something new.
Be interesting to see what Rusyn or A.Nother will be like with a different manager next season. I think Still likes to mix it up and can be direct at times. If we can get runners and defenders turned more often it will play to the strengths of our midfield with more space to exploit. Its all too slow and infront of 8 men atm, and that goes all the way back to Mowbray.
Only bairn I’d accept and not sure if he still counts as one is stansfield but not sure if it’s possible given how well he’s done in a dire Birmingham side, can see Fulham keeping him right until the end of the window again
Some candidates for our next number 9: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anhá_Candé https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francesco_Camarda https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charalampos_Kostoulas https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilyes_Housni https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Ilenikhena I'm only half joking.
Rusyn is the one I was most surprised with mind every time I’ve watched him he looks good but for whatever reason the managers don’t play him. He looks faster than everyone else on the pitch by a mile anarl.
Anyone reckon we could get Hugo Ekitite on loan next year? Not really pulled up any trees in Germany, Young lad who needs games, We seem to have a decent relationship with PSG, Knows Will Still
Never been a massive fan of this lad, got loads of hype but think hes been pushed to senior football too soon Not sure hes cut out for the championship but you just never know, seems like the type of player that if the fans love him n hes the main man that he could be really good
Only seen him a handful of times and he's looked decent, a bit like Stewart in the way he plays. But like I said I'm hardly an expert on him. He'd seem like a type of signing we'd make.
Yeah ive only seen him a few times as well, think the move to PSG was far too early for him and worry he will be another that peaked too soon I def wouldnt be against signing him, he def has the upside and if he feels loved i revkon he would do well
I was at the game against Swindon in the youth FA Cup and the centre forward was, for me, the best player on the pitch (which included Rigg btw) and was only 16. His movement was good and the ball stuck to him when played to him, so I would definitely have him for our development teams.
