Styles is a strange one. The fact he’s a loanee from a division below and we’re playing him LB when we’re crying out for a DM, which he plays for Hungary.. baffling! I’d hope we utilise the loan market properly next season though would be nice to see us bring in a high profile player from a top club.
Yeah I don't like building squads around 4/5 loans, but 2/3 high end loan deals are always beneficial. We have to use the loan market next season.
Me too mate, 2 top rated talents. We should be a big attraction for Prem clubs to send their young lads with our training facilities and how we treat Amad
It really confuses me how Burstow has come from Chelseas academy and what it is about him that made them think he could have a future at a club of their level
They might think that but they still to have a business model where they send as many out on loan as possible get the loan fees and hopefully sell a player for a profit?
I don't know how he made it past their U18s. Hes even been one of the worst players on the pitch every time hes featured for our U23s
Chelsea have farmed youth players for years mate, paid them stupid money and used them for financial reasons
Bought him from Charlton in January 2022 for around 2million I believe after a few good performances in League One, then loaned him back till the end of the season. Spent the 22/23 season playing for Chelsea youth then joined us for the 23/24 season after he made a couple appearances for their first team at the start of this season. They definitely see something in him, not sure what mind.
It’s brilliant if used right, should only have 2 or 3 max but they need to be players we could never get on a perm
I’m holding judgement on any of our strikers because of how poor the players around them are when it comes to fitting them in. Good teams give their strikers chance after chance and we just don’t. If we were putting it on a plate for them and they were missing then fair enough but there’s just nout.
When was the last time a winger for us actually got to the byline and swung a cross in like Summerbee used to do back in the day? Football is nkt Rocket science is it.
Probably because Summerbee was right footed and played on the right wing, for some strange reason that's not a thing in the modern game. It seems if your right footed you need to play on the left wing
I am originally from Boldon Colliery mate and my Nephew lives near Jarrow and often goes for a pint with Riggs dad, to be fair my Grandson is a big Chris Rigg fan and my Nephew took his shirt to get signed and when I took him to pick it up and say thanks to the nephew he made an excuse and said we had to pick it up. We went to their house and Chris had signed the top for him and his dad met us at the door and Chris was supposed to be there to give him his shirt but was on a club night out meal funnily enough for Jobe's 18th birthday. But his dad was excellent with Lucas (Lucas is only 9) and chatted with him for about 10 minutes discussing Chris and football in general and then got us tickets for the match which for a 9 year old boy was really special, Now he wont wear his top and is getting it framed and I had to buy him a new top guess that was my fault but the kid has been star struck ever since. That was a great day to see so much joy on his face to just meet a footballers dad, I guess that is what real support is about, that feeling of joy and awe, that innocent excitement of kids and their faces. To top it off he wasn't even upset that he did not get to meet Chris as he was so excited to have met his dad.
Chelsea are the footballing version of the Russian meat grinder, hoy as many as you can at it and you might get a few that breakthrough the lines.
It probably came in as teams started playing just 1 upfront and full backs becoming more of an attacking threat.
Any thoughts on Alfie May at Charlton as a potential signing? He would fit the remit if we're looking to bring in a bit of experience with Dack and Evans likely leaving. May is the leagues top scorer (League One) in a struggling Charlton team, has another year left on his contract and could probably be got for a somewhat modest fee considering the player will want the move and the club are going nowhere. He's a bit of a Vardy in that he got he start in professional football late, was shunted out wide for a few seasons before looking very good as a 9 at Cheltenham and now Charlton.
