We do. Just never get given a chance nor any service, not sure what people expect. Look at how direct we played under Neil when we had strikers firing compared to how we play since he left. Fair few at the match who think they’re football experts expect a striker to press all game in a system where the rest of the team doesn’t press, as if the defenders he’s going to press by himself don’t have legs and can’t pass a ball around him.

The future may be different but we have none ready to make a consistent impact in this division.

Disagree. People are raving about Tommy Conway this season, last season was his first real season in blokes football and he was nothing special but Bristol City persisted with him. Gyokores had 3 goals in his first 30 odd championship games, again a team persisted with him. You can’t throw someone into a disjointed team who were instructed to play without a striker and expect them to score for fun feeding off scraps. When we had Simms people were saying he’s a donkey who isn’t worth £3.5m yet he goes to Coventry where the wingers have the common sense to put balls in the box and he’s doing well for a team with “worse” players than we would have around him.

Rusyn has more than enough quality to do well in this division for us, look at his data from when he was at Zorya. Hemir was at the best academy in world football all of his youth career he’s clearly not a donkey. It’s all about confidence and game time, other clubs put a striker in and leave him to settle whereas we don’t. If they haven’t scored by half time from the one sniff of goal they’ve had the fans are on their case and they get subbed early.

We all have opinions. I think neither are ready for that central role. I don’t think Rusyn will be, Hemir would benefit from a loan out to get a season in league one is what I see.
Edit. That Boro lad that they keep talking about in Starbucks is exactly what we need

I don’t think we’ll be targeting a CB and he’d cost quite a bit but I really like Jacob Greaves at Hull. 23 years old, played a decent amount of games at this level. Comfortable on the ball. Left footer too, adds great balance.

I had been told this near the beginning of the season and my Nephew who knows the family well and often attends matches with Rigg's dad and agent told me that they were very happy at Sunderland and that barring any major upset they could not see a reason why Chris would leave (this was during the time he was 15 and before he signed his apprentice deal).
I do know however that there were problems when MB took over regarding assurances he made verbally to Chris and then backtracked on ( I don't want to say too much on that as my Nephew told me in confidence) which I did mention on one of the threads a while back just before Beale was sacked.

Last year near the end of the transfer window you might remember the whole board going into meltdown as we were selling everything but the kitchen sink with about 3 days left <laugh> We may well sell a couple of players and JC may well be one or we may get a new coach in that excites the players and nobody wants to go (I think 1 or 2 first team players will probably go with another couple of fringe players out and maybe 1 or 2 loans as well.
We will have to re-evaluate the squad sell some and add some it is always the way with clubs the hope is the replacements prove to be better than what you have sold, rthat is what we will have to wait and see what develops but at the moment nothing is set in stone it is all conjecture the same way it was last year just not quite as intense!! YET LOL<party>

    PL FREE AGENTS
This upcoming summer’s recruitment needs to be good and whilst we all know the model has us less likely to pay a fee for an experienced player, there will be plenty of players available on a free come the end of the season. Many of which could add much needed experience to the current young Sunderland side.

Any of these that you would take?

    OLI MCBURNIE
The Scotsman looks set to leave Sheffield United in the summer and will undoubtedly have offers from elsewhere but depending on wages, could be someone Sunderland could look to in order to aid their attacking woes. McBurnie is capable of scoring goals but offers a lot more to his side on and off the ball. His hold up play to relieve pressure on the rest of the team is paramount to the sides he’s played for and could play a similar role to the one vacated by Ross Stewart.

    JOSH BROWNHILL
Another very experienced player at both Premier League and Championship level, Brownhill could be a very good addition to any Championship side. Having won promotion with Burnley last season, Brownhill played a crucial role in that and Sunderland have been devoid of any experience in the middle of the park since Corry Evans’ injury last year. Whilst he isn’t necessarily the robust, combative midfielder Sunderland need, it is an area Sunderland are light in.

    JOHN EGAN
One last dance? Egan isn’t a name nor a player that sparks excitement but like many players on this list, provides a wealth of experience and through his 200+ appearances with Sheffield United, has achieved numerous promotions. Danny Batth was our POTY last season and whilst Ballard and O’Nien have played well as a two this season, having someone to fill that role could be invaluable. And he’s one of our own…

    DANNY WELBECK
Okay, it’s unrealistic. But Welbeck could be a top, top signing should a Championship club be able to attain his services. Another experienced striker who knows where the back of the net is, Welbeck has proven he still has what it takes to perform at the top levels. Whilst his wages could make this a no-go, it was a name I simply couldn’t leave out.

Egan is a great shout especially if we’re going to a back 3, others would also be incredible but probably unlikely

I’m hoping we use the loan market a lot better than we did this season. Would love another Diallo level signing.

We went from Amad to Burstow in a few months. These last 2 windows have been abysmal and weve taken about 3 steps back to where we were a year ago

We have really not done well in that market. Styles is a good player and I am sure he signs perm. To take 1 prem loan though isnt optimum

What's people's thoughts on the loan market? I like we limit the number on loan, be happier if we save them for players like Amad, rather than Burstow.

Much better to have a core squad with 1 or 2 next level loans in my opinion

Blackburn have had Harvey Elliott, weve had Amad, Villa got promoted with Mings and Tammy Abraham for example, i think its a big thing to do in the Championship to help get promotion, but getting the right players are down to our recruitment team to make sure we dont get another Burstow again

I think we need to rely on it more. There is some amazing talent in the prem u23 system. Johnson had brilliant contacts as did Mowbray. Dont know why we took only Burstow, but it surprised me.

I agree we need to use it better, but not 5 players, 2 is about the sweet spot for me
