I think I'm living in a different world to people on here. I've called plenty of bosses by a contraction/nickname without it being an act of disrespect or a sign of unhealthy familiarity.

This is another one I just cannot understand. It's getting really odd around here.
Some people are just looking for anything to have a go about, means nothing if he called him Doddsy or Gaffer, it's irrelevant

Been thinking about this one. It struck me as poor by ONien to not call him gaffer or boss yesterday. Now we are debating it I wonder why I found it poor.

I have always been called either gaffer or coach. Gaffer when in charge of the team coach when a coach. Never been called by my first name, or a nickname. I always made a very conscious choice not be part of the players group, even as a coach. I wanted some clear blue water as to me it is harder to enforce something, or be trusted when asking for different things, and have it accepted if you arent in authority. I even insisted parents called me coach.

But in hindsight I suspect the game is moving on. 20 years ago it was the norm and nobody thought to call me otherwise. In the last couple of years it has required more reminding of players to call me coach. My sense is we will see less of this gaffer or boss stuff into the future, and maybe that is fine as the world moves on. Like you, in the work place I call my boss by her name. Why do I want it different on a football pitch. Not much logic to it in reality.

I took my last serious coaching session a few weeks ago. I wont work in a club again. I definitely left thinking I am a bit of a dinosaur and it is time to let the younger generation move the game on. I will likely become one of those grumpy armchair gits who sit and moan that it was never like this in my day. 1st time was probably shaking my head when Luke said Doddsy.

The whole O’Nien calling him Doddsy just confirms that we can’t give it to Dodds.

He’s not authoritative enough at all to be a head coach, certainly not here. I do think Speakman was hoping he’d go on a very good run which would have justified giving it to Dodds full time. Lovely cheap appointment there.

Thankfully, he’s been as bad as Beale and won’t get it.

I think you've just inadvertently summed up what a lot of people are hoping for and how tangled some of the thinking has become.

Surely Speakman's hopes were totally sensible. If Dodds, who knows the club and players, had proved to be a man who could organise the players, and win games as he did with Leeds and West Brom, that would've been a fantastic solution ... and what's wrong with saving loads of money when it could be much better spent.

Liverpool famously used to almost always prefer to promote from 'the boot room' during an incredibly successful period for the club.

When you say 'thankfully' Dodds has failed, blown the play-offs and forced us to look elsewhere is that because spending money is what people want in your opinion ...

... or is it a big name?

thankfully he's been as bad as beale?, so your happy we've been on this run instead of winning games ?

I get the feeling that we could appoint Pep tomorrow and some people will still find a way to have a pop at the club
God forbid . . . . that would never happen anyway, but I'd hate having someone like him, who seems to need, and has, such an unfair advantage over everybody else to succeed <yikes>

He's obviously a decent one, he seems to be able to make players gel, but I've never liked, or agreed with, 'cheque book managers' :emoticon-0145-shake

Can’t get my head round people wanting a bad run so they’re proven right. I’d rather be on a good one and proven wrong

I've kept off the forum to see if it was true that I was the one ruining it and causing arguments ...

... hmm.

I'll make a statement here for future reference ...

... all of the people wanting KLD, SD, KS, MD, AD INFINITUM out of the club will be saying exactly the same things with the next people.

What they want, in my opinion, is a takeover by a state with endless 'investment'.

They want us to be Man City however much they pretend otherwise.

As much as I don’t want it to be him, if it is heckingbottom we’re wanting, get him in now instead of letting Dodds continue let us flounder even more.

There are people on here that having been saying ‘anyone but …insert name .’ for years on RTG, campaign against every incumbent. It often won because the pack join in. It led to us being a relegated bankrupt laughing stock, but here they are on another site doing the same thing. Blood hunger is a terrible thing for humanity, never mind our club.

No matter how much we flounder we'll be in the Championship ...

... level on points in August.
That's why getting everything right in the summer is so important. Get the right man in let him work through the summer/ pre season , if he's what we need the players will be ready to go.
Don't think they'll give the last few games a second thought if they are confident from pre season and happy with the head coach

Do you think we’ll have someone ready to go / someone lined up now ? It feels like some stronger input from the new coach is needed early on so we get the right level in our key positions. If we crack that, a lot will take a breather (until a big player leaves)
