I fear the point about home performance is right. Stoke game - abysmal with no effort on target. Swansea at home pretty much the same. We got pegged back by Birmingham because we couldn't finish them off and we only just hung on to the 3 points v Millwall. For a team with so much talent, the amount of chances we create at home is pitiful. Yes, we've had some good home performances - Towels, Rotherham, Cardiff, Leicester - but they have been too few and far between. We are far too inconsistent to be genuine top 6 challengers.
It’s pretty amazing we are the worst tacklers in the league but still got to 6!th or 8th . It’s not about the number of tackles it’s how many you win or retain possession from such as second ball isn’t it?
Just a thing re tackles, aren't we a possession based team, so it's unlikely we'll be top of the stats for tackling if we have the ball more ! Regarding potential incoming, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest for us to put in a cheeky permanent bid for Delap, I know they may rate him but I can't see him forcing his way into the first 11 anytime soon at Citehh
Considering Norwich are also in the bottom three and the top three includes Millwall and QPR, I’m not sure it tells you much.
Norwich attempt more tackles per 90. They’re a very aggressive team. We make the fewest tackles in the league and also have the lowest tackle win %, which tells me we are quite soft and the few tackles we do make we lose more than we win.
The point @springtiger made was it doesn’t matter how many tackles you make but how many you win. Well, we don’t make many tackles and we rank lowest for tackles won percentage.
Yeah, hence why I'm no longer fighting the idea of him leaving. I don't think that particular kind of performance has been what we've seen this season, this fear of shooting has maybe crept into the last couple of games, but as I've said previously, we just don't do well against teams near the bottom because we don't know how to break down teams that don't play as expansive and openly as we do. The system we have now would be fine in the PL, but it doesn't work against teams that sit in and defend, which is what teams trying to avoid relegation do when they come away from home. They come for a point and sometimes we end up being too kind and give them all three. Player power carries, unfortunately for staff. I've heard that a couple of key players have spoken to Tan about it, I don't know what his response was.
In itself, that stat alone doesn’t tell you much about how well a team is performing, the club with the lowest number of tackles in the Premier League (by quite some distance) is Man City.
I’ve heard the exact same. It’s not quite mutiny from what I’ve heard but it’s not too far off. Some players are supposedly quite pissed off. They’re not a fan of the rigid positionalism that is part of Rosenior’s tactics.
Man City have a much better tackle win % though. I agree that the number of tackles isn’t as important as winning them. Unfortunately for us, we don’t make a lot of tackles and are ranked bottom for winning the tackles we do make.
For a while now, people have often said that we're reluctant to shoot and that's a big part of our problem. I think sometimes that maybe is the case; certainly Philogene seems to go through spells of scoring through instinctive finishing and then spells where he keeps overthinking, running out of room and getting nowhere. But a lot of the time I think it's the opposite. We get into a decent position and someone makes a stupid decision to shoot when it clearly isn't on. Zaroury had one yesterday which was utterly brainless, in the first half when he'd just won it in a good position and it was a 2 v 2, the ball was bouncing and he just swung at it when it was only ever going to go miles over, and so it proved. We quite often have games where we have loads of shots but barely any on target. I think sometimes we get desperate because we're creating so little and it means that what we do create gets wasted.
