Yeah, same. My love in was with Jan not Yann. Far superior player. I wasn’t sold on him like everyone else when we were premier league. He’s 33 and hasn’t been playing a lot.

Not convinced he is what we need.

He’s played 141 games over the last 3 seasons to be fair that’s quite a lot of football.

But great point about Jan, some player he would’ve been if his legs weren’t made of crisps.

They have a 10-15% sell on mind. We need to get good at selling, it sets you up for years

Decent wedge that, so they’ll have lifted about £30mill for him. They’ve done well there cos he wasn’t going for 79 plus without going somewhere and proving himself.

11 goals and 8 assists in 16 games I’ve just read. Banging stats them.

Dunno mind, he is a top class player and he’s just coasted the big move.

In the right side he be an absolute weapon.

He’s decent but he’s not a bairn anymore I’m sure he’s about 26 isn’t he? What you see is pretty much what you’ll get now and he took ages to get going in the champ and even then he only managed about 40 goals in 120 games or so.

£70m seems mental for a player who’s not played at the highest level

Yeah it is, but he’s not played at all for at least 6 months isn’t it? That’s a long time for a 33 year old.

Jan is the most talented player I’ve ever seen at our club. You could see why he was at Bayern. If it wasn’t for his injuries he’d have been a first team player for them, he was that good. He dominated the midfield like I’d never seen a Sunderland player do before, or since. Loved him.

Always more to his game than goals. His all round play and what he brings to the entire attacking third is immense.

Sides paying that amount generally aren’t reliant on someone getting 25-30 goals. Chelsea apparently bid £73 million which was rejected, he’d score a LOT for Chelsea

He's 25. But maybe he's just a late developer.

What you see with him is definitely something though. Strong, quick, good feet, good finisher. I reckon he'd do well in a side like Chelsea. That amount of money wouldn't be daft for him by today's standards.

I'll be honest if we signed M'villa and Moore I'd not be impressed. M'villa I can see as another Defoe type signing, not fit and expected to be up to speed immediately, and well past his best, and Moore I think is over rated and hope the rumours he's off to Cardiff are true

He hasn’t done anything above this level really though the Portuguese Primera is ranked pretty similar to the championship. He’s definitely all of what you’ve just described he’s a good striker I just don’t think he’s a world class striker. If he was I think a better club would’ve picked him up in the summer rather than sidestepping just to get a sniff of European football. £17m is a decent price and not much of a risk for a PL club.

I just can’t see anyone paying close to that personally like I’d imagine it’s being talked about because he has a release clause somewhere around that price but i might be wrong and if I am he’ll go and put egg on my face no doubt and score 30 goals in his first season :emoticon-0102-bigsm

£87mill I believe

Must admit I was, I think half that would still have surprised me.

Good player but worth that much? Not for me.
11 goals and 7 assists in 16 league games for Sporting so far this season. I know it’s not the best level but every time I’ve watched him, I’ve been very impressed.

Striker is the hardest position to scout by far now. Mentioned it before but its the messi n ronaldo effect, players growing watching them want to play in their positions. When i coached youth football we struggled for strikers as all our best attacking players wanted to play wider

The term experience is always a tough one to understand what folk mean. I prefer using 1st team ready - we def need a cdm n cf who are 1st team ready in this window plus a lb

I think when experience is mentioned people automatically think of 28-30 year old players.

Personally I think you have it better described as 1st team ready. There will be 22/23 year old players out there with 100+ games under there belt, I would class as experienced.
That would be the type of players I would rather we aimed for in the coming windows, still young to improve but also bit of game experience behind them, rather than 17/18 with no senior football.

I've been impressed by him too and his scoring record at a modest level is good, I just never saw him as a top premier league player which is what that price suggests.

Haaland cost City 52 mil. That was a bargain but it's a reasonable comparison.

The test in that league comes when he plays against the big boys. He came up against Atalanta twice in Europe and scored in one of the games. They’ve played Porto once and he scored the first goal in that game. They played away at Benfica and he scored the first goal in that game before they went down to 10 men and were defeated 2-1.

He’s doing the business and looks like he’s needing to step up again.

Problem was that was the only reason we got him other wise he'd have been champions league every season
