Sorry was meant to reply to someone else. Basically someone who works for sky said the rumours of Will Still to Sunderland were getting louder
Probably just did it for the engagement imo. I don’t think anyone has a clue, which I love about us these days - as infuriating as it can be, sometimes!
It was quite random. He obviously tweeted it on a bit of a whim but hopefully that's a good thing as he's heard something positive about Still coming here.
Exactly this. Probably knows there’s interest from our side but I don’t think anyone knows any more than that. Fingers crossed we can pull it off with Still but i’m not too hopeful as he seems just out of our reach currently. Saying that, the likes of Cirkin, Clarke and Roberts seemed out of our reach in League One but we managed it. Whoever it is, I have the utmost confidence in our recruitment and it’ll be a good appointment. I’m not worried about it.
Can't really explain why, but the fact it's been a week and no announcement is kind of comforting. Feels like the club are taking their time and making sure it's 100% the right appointment to suit both current and our future needs
Yeah as far as I'm concerned it's all guesswork. I know people know some of the players but those players aren't sitting around outside Speakman's office watching the comings and goings. Apart from that I find it hard to believe that Speakman or Dreyfus are going around casually saying it could be Dodds until the end of the season to people that can and will pass it on.
Agreed. Let's speculate all we like, but to say Dodds is getting the gig if we win tomorrow night is naive...
And wrote him off far too quickly as he’s been a top class defender for years at a way higher level than us.
And even if we didn't get promoted this season he will have had half a season to work out what needs to be done for next season.
Maybe the ones we have already seen didn't come across well enough in discussions or their club refused permission? Better to take our time and get it right imo
Or it could be taking time to negotiate the compensation package with the prospective one's current club.
It wouldn’t just be based on that though, it’s a process with due diligence. If they deem he’s the best man for the job, there’s every other factor gone in to it as well, and the result only helps. Sable has been fluctuating as favourite for the past week, and if we can’t get Still, I’d rather it was Dodds than him, someone who the players know, respect and responded to against WBA. Saying that, Still is the perfect candidate but we have to convince him. Dodds doesn’t look as far away from management as people seem to think.
Dodds is head of individual player development isn't he ? Or has that changed ? My understanding is that He oversees player development through all the age groups, making sure similar coaching and style is done throughout the club. I doubt, though surprises happen, that the club want him to move on from that role on a permanent basis. If I'm wrong, and he was assistant coach for the first team instead for example, then that changes things and he might be in consideration in that case
