Funnily enough I heard a rumour ages ago that there were strong links with a Quatari group looking to invest In Sunderland. At the same Time ADNOC were taking a large stake in the Louis Dreyfuss group. I put it down to people adding 2x2 together and coming up with 5. I have since been told that there is significant investment and sponsorship coming into the club and the guy who told me has gotten quite a few things right and doesn't say too much all he said was that they are still only early days in their plans for our club
Not sure how I'd feel if that were the case mate. I know it's the way of football these days. This lad is not a gob s**te I take it? From my experience with people that shout the loudest know very little and it's the lads like you've said, that say very little but when they do it's not normally far from the truth.
Yeah he not a gob ****e so when he says something it is often fairly close to the truth. Like I said he only said that there may well be some significant investment did not say when and mentioned no amounts but he did say that there were legacy contracts that had to be sorted to create opportunities. That was about as much as he would say so I left it at that, but mind that was before the season had started and as we all know things can change quickly.
Anyone heard the McDonalds advert on the radio with that cheeky little arsehole? First one is her being lippy to her Dad about the McDonalds App talking to him like he's thick and the other ad is the same lass saying how her and her brother were going to have a Sly McDonalds to themselves but then the mam and dad decide seeing as they pay for everything, they wouldn't mind a bit scran, she says "so I give my brother an eyeroll, family dinner it is then". Worse things going on in the world, but that ad pisses me off.

Simon Armitage: Poet laureate on 'life-changing' visit to the Arctic https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-67098028 By Ian Youngs Entertainment & arts reporter After a "life-changing" visit to the Arctic, poet laureate Simon Armitage says poets can convey what's happening with climate change in a way that scientists and journalists can't. A polar bear is traipsing over a receding glacier that now resembles a "rotting carcass of ice", wearing a fur coat that's "too heavy, too baggy, too hot since the sun got stuck in the sky". In Armitage's poem Polar Bear, the writer goes on to imagine the animal he spotted on his visit being destined to roam in ever narrower circles in search of scarcer food, until all it can do is reach up for the North Star and "cling by a single claw". In another work, Armitage describes his boat drifting through the remains of an "ancient empire of snow" that appears to have been smashed to ruins, leaving the "marbled wreckage" of imagined icy temples, palaces and tombs. A third poem is inspired by a conversation with a scientist who is researching seabirds whose stomachs contain pieces of plastic from around the world. "In the small intestine/of the little auk/we found Mexico City, Manila, Shanghai, New York." As well as his poems, Armitage has made a BBC Radio 4 series about the trip. In the first episode, he says poets have had their "money's worth when it comes to nature" by using it as inspiration for centuries, and it's "time for poetry to pay something back". (continues)

Tremendous article in the Athletic about John Barnes and the racism in footy when he played for Liverpool. Starts with the story of that picture of him kicking the banana off the pitch. Made me remember that it was only 35 years ago, and racism was such an underchallenged thing in football. References the commentators not really calling out the racist chants being heard on tv. Pat Nevin talks great about what he experienced at Everton, as does an everton season ticket holder. John Barnes is one of my favourite footballers. He was so good. One of those players who I could still see being a superstar in the modern game. Had a good night in his company once as well, really top bloke.
Heating on for the first time since winter, tried to get to November but got sick of layering up and still being cold.
Just bought loads of logs. Keeps us warm all winter and saves us worrying about the gas and electricit.
Nothing cosier than that. I can sit and stare at a log fire indefinitely. Doesn't help you much in a 3 storey house mind.
Off to Canada next Friday for a week. The weather is usually mild(ish) this time of year, but we'll have the log burner on all day no doubt
Aye we went across in September a few years back for 3 weeks, half the holiday red hot the other half snow, really weird over there. The forecasters seem to know the weather to the hour and are spot on.
Yeah, been going over there for 6 or 7 years now - the seasons are largely on point each year, although we had a really mild October last year. The best year was trying to walk through 'tronno city centre in April when it was -13 and the snow was horizontal
I find it funny when you are out in the woods walking and you come across a piece of that red and white tape across the path with a sign saying Grizzly bears active in this area. I’m thinking I hope the buggers can read and see they aren’t allowed to come past this tape
